whats up. ...you all have helped me through the last 2 months. i have just searched and found every thing i was looking for.

i cannot find anything now.

i low sided the bike in a left turn yesterday. ....it weas my fault, i didnt scrub in the tires enough. ....i only had about 30 miles on a new set of pilot powers and leaned in, it got squirly and i straightened up to brake and re3cover. ...well, i recovered onto dirt and locked the rear. it fell on its left side and slid maybe 8 feet (i slowed it WAYdown before laying it), dented the tank, bruised my leg and my ego. i am very glad that it was just those things and not my life.

so, i am going to take it out for a little ride today so this ill feeling of self distrust wont fester, but i am wondering what else i should take a look at as far as geometry. any measuring i should do? there are some scrapes and what not, but other than the frame, it looks mostly cosmetic. i picked up the bike and rode it home, but i was in shock and entirely focused (maybe not the smartest thing but i had to as there was noone around for about 10 miles.

and is the dent in the tank going to casue rigidity issues or can i finish the summer out with it as is?

you ride it with the dent, no problem.
Check for cracking or leaking where your swingarm meets your frame
soften your forks all the way up, and then lean on them as hard as possible a few times to cycle them as much as you can. as long as they dont bind or pinch somewhere, you're fine.

the triple tree is designed to shatter before the forks bend on the Buell XB and 1125 models, if there are no cracks or anything on the triple tree upper and lower, you're fine on the front end as long as the wheel is still good

as long as the swing arm only has a little bit of scratching and you were on softer ground, I seriously doubt any damage was done to it

I put an XB flat over from a tail stand, and then it slide another long ways (at least 30 feet) and there was still no damage to the swing arm

these things are made to take a pretty hefty blow, and usually a single vehicle accident with these leaves them in decent shape as long as they didn't slam into a wall hard and the speed wasn't very high

thanks for the replies guys. ...so, i broke the foot shifter peg clean off, the front left signal is toast, and scraped my crg shorty clutch lever, broke the bar end off, and cracked the back of the mirror on top of the frame damage. the swing arm did not touch, and the forks did not touch.

for whatever reason, i put on a pair of padded compression shorts just before that ride, and it was my first crash in 7 years (got the license 7 years ago). i have never worn padded shirts before, just thought id give em a whirl. they saved my leg from some serious bruising, or maybe even a break. ..it still hurts, but xrays say there is no tissue damage and its superficial.

anyone have a stock foot shifter they are willing to part with??? ...and will take paypal?

going to wash the bike right now, drill out the shifter and put a bolt in it for today.

thanks again for the replies!!

just gave some foot pegs away.i do have stock t-sig and a set of aprilla mirrors if you need them.glad you didnt get hurt to bad.

well, i rode it, i was definately nervous. ..more nervous than the 1st time i rode a bike. the bike felt heavy on one side, but maybe it wasw just me. is there a way to check if my tires are tracking straight? im just way nervous to lean that bike into a turn again.

any suggestions?

what suspension setup do you guys recommend? im 207 with full gear on. ...its stock except the front preload set to 4 lines instead of 5. im looking for confidence in the turns

as far as determining if the bike is straight, when you take your hands off the bars, the bike should coast straight if you're on a resonably level road. I scrub new tires in a parking lot so I can get it done quickly in one session. That way its done thoroughly and I can forget about it.

this the thing I hate most about new tires that mold release is nasty shit

It's going to feel real "iffy" when getting back on after laying it down. Work through it, like you did when you first started riding, and build your confidence back up. It's completely normal - then you can analyze the bikes handling. Till then, it's hard to say if it's the bike or you. Unfortunately, I know this from experience, and that's how it was with me.

Why am i feelin stoopid for just now hearing about scrubbin in tires? I bought my first bike 10 years ago, and never heard of this before.[confused]

I dont know... if you take your bike in to get it serviced, any mechanic/ tire guy should have warned you to take it easy until your tires are scrubbed in. if you change your tires on your own, you probably skipped that part. I dont have the tools required to change the tires, so I have always taken mine in. The mechanic has always warned me about scrubbin the tires.

guess that kinda explains it. only ever had 1 guy do my tires, and he's never said jack. Maybe he doesn't know or assumes i do.
Just had a new rear put on about 100 miles ago. haven't hit enough twisties to get rid of my chicken strip yet. i'm guessin the procedure is basically bustin some tight circles (carefully of course) in a parkin lot?

12rdan when are we getting together to ride??? Im only 45 min to an hour from you, and i see you on here all the time!!!

guess that kinda explains it. only ever had 1 guy do my tires, and he's never said jack. He builds/rides full blown custom choppers with damn 250s & 300s.they're cool to look at and you feel like a bad ass ridin them things through sturgis or daytona. 120ci. and some of em with blowers, but i'd rather be on mine anyday. Maybe he doesn't know or assumes i do.I guess that'll make a great conversation next time i see him.
