Help Please!

Just took out my 01 Blast for a ride yesterday, went about 10 miles backfired loud as Heck then just died. Would not start back up until it had set for about 30 minutes, started right up went about 3 miles backfired and died again, waited another 20 minutes fired right up, let it run for about 3 minutes then shut it down and again would not re-start until I had let it set? I am completely confused her. Any help would be great.

Sounds like maybe an ignition coil or pickup coil/pulse generator breaking down under heat load. If you can, verify "no spark" after it dies. Sometimes you can duplicate the condition by putting a hair dryer to the ignition coil while the bike is idling. If it dies doing that, then it's a pretty good guess that is your culprit. I am not familiar with the engine, but the pickup coil is probably not accessible with the bike running.

My 01 did the same. Turned out the coil and boot were the culprits. I DID end up replacing the ignition module as well, but under misapprehensions. Thats ok tho...in the long run, I have a spare. LOL I say check the boot first and then the coil. Hope this helps.
