Hey Guys,
My 2003 Buell XB9S, is having some running issues. But in order to explain my frustration and why i can't seem to figure out what the trouble is or where exactly to start i need to tell you the back story.
Bike was running with no issues, a fellow member and I hooked the ECM spy to install the race map. bike showed 3 codes 53,23,32. deleted said codes and proceeded to install new maps and do a TPS reset, all of which we followed lists of instructions. after further failure i decided to order a used ECM off of buellsterparts.com. installed the new ECM and ran the stock map to see if it would return to its normal running condition which it did not, then the Throttle adjustment cable snapped, had to go out of town so i dropped it off at Harley with a race map installed and had them dial in the TPS after installing a new cable, however the Tech said he could not get it to stay running and it falls on its face when its given hard throttle. He said he has a feeling it is my fuel pump, I Just don't see how the pump could be bad if the damn thing starts up and how it could be my issue, i understand that if it has poor pressure it could be an issue, but the codes the bike originally threw are for the injectors. Could this be more of a thing of concern? bike has no current codes and will start up under the right conditions but does not want to stay running long enough to warm up. Sorry if this is sloppy I am covered in grease and a bit frustrated.
Bike current condition
K&N filter
Gutted and shortened Stock muffler
crank breather modification
Minor other things

How many miles are on your machine? 03 would put it in the 'era' with the known fuel pump wiring 'chafing' issues, so the Tech could be correct. Search this site (and the Ulysses sites) for the notes/postings on the fuel pump wiring 'chafing' issues, and read up - examine the photos. The more miles - the more chafing - and when the bike is revved hard, vibrations could cause the chafed fuel pump wires to short. This is all happening inside the fuel tank by the way so don't bother looking on the outside.
I am not saying this is absolutely the issue - just suggesting an area to explore.

Good Luck!
Rusty
