New forum member and hopefully new Buell owner soon. I'm looking to purchase a Uly real soon with my tax return from Uncle Sam and have been looking on Craigslist and eBay and such. Found a 2007 near with 9600 miles in good shape for $4200. This bike does not have the luggage with it. Curious if this deal sounds resonable? My other question is did Buell make any changes to this bike from 2006 -2010. Are there any years that are better than others? Things to look out for?

There are posts on the forum that will answer many of your questions. Do a google search with "Buellxb: [topic]" and/or scroll through the Uly forum. I found the following in about 20 seconds doing this, which discusses 2008-2010 differences in Uly's. 2008-10 Uly's

^ for the love of sanity do this.

Where are you located?
I collect Ulysses & have connections with shippers.
Per the "X" (tallest model) there is nothing update wise that would stop me from owning a well equipped 06 over a standard 2008+.

Id never buy one without bags for $4k+.

I've owned a 144k mile 06 (2nd motor) & a 80k (original motor) is on a truck to me, hopefully arriving today.

Is it an XB12X or XB12XT? not sure if the latter is still considered a Ulysses? You might want to find out as I see the T Left off a lot of adds for a Uly. The T does not have the beak and there is differences in geometry of the bike. Here is a good link for differences between X and XT, Adv Rider X and XT differences
mriulvr link above is for 08 and later, but there are also differences between 07 and later. The 08, 25th anniversary addition has changes in the engine as well as turning radius and more I think. My 09 Uly is an X, DDI F3 Injection, not sure if the previous years were the same. Sorry I do not know all the details, but do know there are differences. I am 5'7" and Love the height, especially 2 up, I can flat foot the bike. When solo I flat one foot or wear good riding boots and nearly flat both. I ride rear suspension full height all the time, more nimble, but when going over 100 MPH solo can cause some shake. When riding off road it is pretty good for me, if unexperienced when solo because of the height find a level spot to stop or hold your brakes well. I let somone ride my Uly off road and they dropped it, when stopped on unlevel ground. Also run a 190/50 rear tire which I find more stable, lower profile but wider tire, works well for me manuevering off as well as on road. I think you will Love the Uly, hope you find a good one!

Yeah I'm gonna keep my options open and try and find one with bags. This guy won't budge on price. I'm just north of Madison Wisconsin, where there is an 07 xb12x for 4,200. I'm gonna start researching differences in model years, thanx for the link

After researching this bike I'm gonna try and hold out for an 08-10 since there were quite a bit of upgrades done in 08. However the cost on the very few XB12X's on the market seems to jump up quite a bit for the 08-10 models. From what I gathered researching this bike is that there were very few 2010 models made. Is there any truth to this? My chances of finding an 08 or newer locally are looking pretty slim at this point. Might have to buy a one way plane ticket to some unknown place and ride my new baby home across the cheddar curtain.:(

Also holding out for the X model instead of the XT. I'm 6'2" 235 so the extra suspension travel and seat height would benefit me greatly. I also like the rough stuff and the occasional washed out gravel road. I've looked all over the Internet and can not find an 08-10 X with luggage in my price range. This is gonna be harder than I thought. Hoping to find that old man who has one sitting in his garage that has a couple hundred miles on it, which he is also willing to take $4G. This is probably to good to be true, I may be dreaming again. The search will continue.

Yea don't hold your breath for a $4k uly. I can maybe get you a 06 w lugguage for $4k+ shipping but mileage will be up around 25-60k . And since I'm not local it would be sight unseen. Which has never worried me but I'm different than most. :)

Well someone will have to pry my 09 Uly from my cold dead hands before I let it go.
Mine came with the hard sides, but I think Hepco & Becker still sells them and the mountings, also for a rear case also, I think it is the journey model. I have so much desire, and so little knowledge, have I paid too much attention to my stretchy pants? (Nacho Libre)

After searching the this forum I'm trying to find an answer to the question, what if any of the improvements on the 08 could be made on 06,07 years? Obviously the Ecm is different and can't be changed and the larger diameter forks probably won't fit in the triple trees. But what about the oil pump and other changes, what can be upgraded? Can't find any threads on this subject?

If you're really keen on the improvements made in the 08 and up xb12x then I suggest you search for one of those. The cost to install what upgrades to an 07 that would actually be possible would be more expensive than the difference in bike prices

I can assure you how ever that the 07 is plenty reliable, strong, capable, and fast. The larger forks may matter in the event you actually off road it or track day it. The steering lock angle is something you can get used to. The 07 ecm is easier to tune (imo). I've never had oiling problems or needed a slightly higher Rev limit either. ..

Best ways to improve an 07 xb12x ,is the uly comfort kit. A good pipe and tune. Some nice hard cases. And a tall windscreen if you like touring. Everything else is just gravy.

My original 06 is mostly swapped to 08 & 09 parts. Everything bolts the same far as motor and running gear goes.

You cannot put 08+ pup or oil cooler on without the newer motor.

You can swap forks and lower triple without issue.
