Does this sound right? In jersey typical highway driving is always between 75 & 85.. it just seems that riding my 12r at 3,500rpm+ is a mpg killer and engine life disaster. and honestly with my d&d its an ear killer, but that doesn't nearly bother me as much.

are there any alternatives for lowering the gearing? chain drive?

You can go chain driven. I believe I saw a post somewhere about changing the primary gearing to help with highway miles.

if i we're to go chain drive, will i really lose alot of noticable torque if its geared more for speed? (mainly for lower rpms on the highway)

Is there any way that a six speed harley gearbox or aftermarket equivalent could be installed?

I feel that the Ulysses guys would really benefit from something like this when they do something crazy like ride for thousands of miles around the planet.

Is there a six speed transmission from a sportster that'd work?

no, would be nice thought. the XB doesn't have the trap door that the older buell have, ex x1 s1 ect. [sad]

Poop.
While I'm sure you could literally spend your way into a six speed of some kind, it'd be sweet to have a bolt on solution.

i live close to place called grand stand designs that i beleive makes a chain conversion, I think thats my only option, although i would be voiding the factory warranty..
