Why does discovery and other similar networks dumb down the shows? Don't they give their target audience any credit?

Also, who thinks its a good idea to repeat the same things over and over after every commercial break? You have an hour timeslot with about 20 minutes of actual content...

Sorry, every time I see a new show on one of these networks, it's completely obliterated by the "standard format". (prototype this) ahem.

</rant>

sorry, I haven't seen the show yet, but after watching the shows on discovery like dirty jobs, mythbusters, prototype this... I really get fed up, Sorry to jump to conclusions, but I can't delete my previous post... I guess these forums have a lame time limit or something...

Good show! damn it was long though! What was the working time frame? I'd also like to know about the post workflow. How many people were involved? You, sound editor, animator, and colorist and story supervisor?

thanks dave and trill for the comments. [up]its definitely a relief to be done with it and see it broadcast. if i had a fear it would be the executive producer at the history channel!! ultimately the show gets made to satisfy the wishes of the ep at the history channel. and kajer is right they are formulaic in how they structure their programs. the show would be better suited as a shorter hour broadcast but longer runtime equals more ad space to sell.

in post workflow - there were 2 offline editors(me), 2 online editors(color), 3 animators and graphic designers, 1 assistant editor, and a boat load of interns.

about 7 months of post - around 4 rough cuts with client - and a 3 week online with audio mix done out of house.

Everythings cut in Hd on avid media composer and a lot of the graphical work, excluding 3d animating is done with Adobe After Effects. I could go on forever... but thats why im a video nerd :)

Anybody going to seed a torrent?

I don't watch "TV" anymore... Between AdBlock Plus for firefox and downloaded torrent TV, I haven't seen an ad/commercial in years...
