So I just dynoed my bike this last weekend for the heck of it at a bike rally. I was thinking it would have A little more than it did since stock power is claimed 100hp and I have upgrades. I imagine the claimed power is at the crank, but would think the upgrades would make up for the difference.

My bike: 2005 xb12s with jardine exhaust, EBR race ECU, ultimate air box mod, air ram air box lid, breather re-rout, and I think that's it. The dyno results were 92HP and 76lbs torque. How can I squeeze a few more horses and torque out of my bike.

This is purely just for gratification of breaking 100hp on my bike, so 8 horsepower is all I need, but of course will do anything else to add even more if I can. I mean easy inexpensive horsepower, I don't mean cams, big bore or stroker kits etc.

You can't get significant power gains on an XB unless you do dramatic alterations to the engine. The XB platform is making about as much power as it can when it came from the factory. Different bolt-ons will give you gains ranging between 2-5 hp and torque.

i know nothing about dynoes but i do know this: the "ram air" gizmos you speak of in all probability do not come into play during a dyno test and if they do it's minimal. last weekend was brutally hot and humid in more than 90% of the continental US. ditch the pump gas....fill with a few gallons of VP race fuel.....test it again with 45 degree air temps and betting you'd be surprised at the increase in power output. just a hunch on my part.

Funny you posted that, a guy just asked me about this picture he saw....

but if you want a couple more hp, get a better exhaust, that is one of the worst aftermarket exhausts. There are plenty of posts about what is a better exhaust. I suggest Dean Adams.

AZmidgets I'll Check out different exhausts for sure. Of course I had to buy the worst one available (didn't do any research) ha ha.

When ASB did their exhaust shoot out the jardine was one of the top performers for HP and torque. Especially considering it was just a few ponies behind a full micron set up. AND the price at the time was less than a third of what the micron was going for at the time.
YES the build quality/longevity of the pipe is not the greatest. However, for the price it's a great pipe. And just like anything it's only as good as the time you put into it.
You know maintenance.

I'll say it one more time, you will not gain more than 2-5HP with any combination of muffler/ECM and bolt on parts.

That's the best dyno plot I have ever seen on an XB12.

108.4 PS = 106.9 HP
122 NM - 89.9 ft-lbs

You have to understand also that there are different dynos out there and different ways to report the data. I would not fixate on the bottom line numbers so much as I would look at the curves on the dyno plot to make sure that there are no significant dead spots throughout the RPM. You can see in the plots above there is a nice linear line for HP and a nice smooth curve for the torque. That is what matters.

My point wasn't to ultimately show HP. My point was intended to be that a jardine is not the piece of junk pipe most people say it is. At least it hasn't been for me. Yes it's required some attention but it has been a great pipe for what I paid almost 10 years ago.
Those hillybilly motor are impressive.
And I agree. It's not about ultimate HP numbers. What's more important is the linear power.

If anyone of us were solely interested in HP numbers we wouldn't own a Buell.
At least not an XB

107RwHp is pretty respectable for a quoted 108Hp (at the crank) bike!

Besides, they sound better, run better, and even run cooler with a good muffler and decent ECM program installed. Why would you not?

If you think about it you are already getting a lot for your money when you buy a Buell. Pistons, rods, cams, etc.... It's basically a built Sportster Engine. Although the XB engine was that and quite a bit more.

The Jardine isn't bad up top, but it and some of the other slip ons leave a big dip in the torque curve on a 12, similar to wiring the exhaust valve wide open.
