I bought some tires different brand front and back. Now the front is half an inch taller. I need to lower the front a little. I unbolted the upper and lower tree clamps and tried to slide it like my Harley but this thing won’t even budge. I add some pb oil on the clamps to make it slide but it won’t. Is there a trick?
 
Never mind, I figured it out. You must jack up the bike to lift the fork and remove the rings underneath the tube
 
^^^^^^^^^^^twisting and turning the fork in the triple clamp also eases moving it vertically. Tightening specs and sequence below for installation. Use BLUE loctite....not RED.

2008-2010 factory recommended specs:


upper: 23-25 ft-lb

lower: 20-22 ft-lb


2003-2007 factory recommended specs:

upper fork clamp fasteners
tighten to 17-19 ft-lbs

lower fork clamp fasteners
tighten to 13-15 ft-lbs

ALL MODELS REPEAT THE TORQUE FASTENING SEQUENCE ONE TIME AFTER INITIAL TIGHTENING.
 
Perfect ��. Those additional info helped . Now I just have to mess with the settings. Just drove it and got a weird dive when braking. I probably need to increase preload. I have it at setting 11 starting from minimum. Any advice?
 
To raise the front of the bike 1/2" it would take a tire that was ONE full inch different circumference.

There is NO 'different brand' of 120/70-17 tire that will have a circumference difference of one inch?

Even though that change would be OK on a Harley or other cruiser... if you raise the forks in the triples to lower the front of bike that much (1/2"), you are drastically increasing the rake and shortening the trail numbers of an already hyper-aggressive chassis to an even more extreme number.

That huge change will make it dive dramatically worse, and be terribly 'twitchy' at speed and in corners.

I put the bike back to its normal height. The rake geometry was throwing me off while riding it.
