First off I want to apologize for the lack of many pictures as I was not expecting to do this write up but since I keep getting PMs on how to do this I decided to do a write up on it so no one would have to pm me unless they have further questions.

ok fist thing is first we will start with ingredients.

Lightning top triple
bar clamp stock or precision engineering makes a nice one.
Handle bars of your choice (mine are the renthal ultra lows)
lightning brake line
lightning clutch cable
4 5/16-18 bolts (if you have harley ones great if not I got mine from advance autoparts)
left and right lightning fairing brackets
center bracket to connect the two
lightning headlights
lightning front fairing
lightning ignition
some wire (this will be to relocate the horn)
male ad female wire plugs (like the ones used on the horn)
zip ties

Now the first thing you will want to do is remove your front fairing, headlights fairing braket, top tripple and anything eles that is no longer going to be used. If you do not have the tool to remove your ignition just unplug it as you will not need the firebolt ignition any way. (consult manual if you do not know how to take all of this stuff off) Be sure to save the screws holding your windscreen to the fairing as you will need them later. Also remove the rubber bushings under the gauges as you will need them too.

once you have removed all of items that you will be replacing change your clutch cable and brake line then your top triple and handle bars. (actually be sure to run the clutch cable threw the hole in the top triple. then put your clutch, brakes, grips, and switches back on to your new bars.

after you have done all of this you are ready for the fun part...putting on the front fairing.

ok as you know you have 3 boxes in the front that the lightning guys have in their tail section which is your fuse box, ecm, and relay box. this seems intimidating and most people will tell you that you have to install a lightning wire harness but this is not true. What you will do is take the mounting plates off of both the fuse box and the relay box as you will not need them and they take up space that you don't have. Then remove the bottom cover from the fuse box (don't take off the top cover on this one as I found out it is easy to break fuses or bend them) and take the top cover off of the relay box (you can take the bottom cover off too if you want to but I found it was not necessary.)

now you are going to want to install your 3 brackets loosly so that the two out side pieces can move around (just get the treads started on the top hole of the ignition.) now you have to get the three boxes inside of the brackets and above the middle bracket. once you do that it should look something like the picture below (I know the fuse box does not have the top cover on it I took this picture before I bent the fuses.)

now bolt up the brakets tight to the top triple.

after this you will need your dash and the 3 rubber pieces you was supposed to save from the firebolt and install the dash.
next you are going to need to take the wires off of your firebolt head light and remove the two female ends that your light bulbs used to plug into (you have to do this step because Buell reversed the head light plug on the lightning and firebolt models for some reason) and put female ends in its place. then pull the wires off of your lightning head lights and replace it with the firebolt wires you just fixed.

now install your head lights and plug them in (good Idea to test and adjust your head lights at this time) also go ahead and reinstall your blinkers.

now before you go thinking everything is done you will have to relocate your horn. I did this by making two wires with a male and a female plug on them to basically extend the wires to the bracket were the oil cooler is (picture below) but you can install it in what ever cleaver place you find.

now you can install your front fairing and you are done.

please let me know if you have any questions or if you think I might have skipped a step or something like this.

thanks just trying to share my experience since it has been told time and time again to me and others that you have to change the wire harness and I have proven that it is just not the case. (I am not the first to do this by the way. original credit should go to Kevin of kdfab as he did this for one of his customers long before me)

random places such as here, bad web, ebay, ASB, and motorcycle superstore. I had been collecting the parts for some time now and I finally got them all to do it.

Why not mount the horn under the fairing? Or at least to the lower triple tree so it is hidden?

Also you may want to redo the clutch cable and run it behind the fairing, it won't take up any space needed for the relays and what not and it will allow for a smoother bend.

Bike looks good by the way. Any plans for the tail?

I have another clutch cable I need to put on there I just haven't yet. Good idea on the lower triple thought. I tried mounting the horn under the headlights at first but that was a disaster on many levels. for one the horn hit the lower triple and made it not work and two it pushed the headlights up to were it was shinning on the trees.

I am not doing anything to the tail unless it is a paint job or something. I really wanted my bike to look basically like it does now other than a few odds and ends I would like to change.

this is awesome, im going to do this.. right after i put on all my other ****, ima hafta save some paint for the windscreen, but i love the lightning front end with the firebolt rear! thank you![up]

I actually bought those off of ebay...and they guy who I bought them from is a member on here but they don't look hard to make but if he still makes and sells them they were not expensive at all and it took out the guess work of trying to do my own threaded rods.

and Jason I am glad I could help. For a long time I wanted to do this and kept buying piece by piece as I would find a deal on them but kept being told I couldn't do it with out changing the harness but then one day I seen some one selling a bike on ebay with a lightning front end that started its life as a firebolt so I asked him what he did. He told me Kevin from KDfab did it for him so I contacted him to get an idea of how to do it.

Nice write up! I will do this when if I get a firebolt. Why can't you use the firebolt's ignition, clutch cable nor brake line? Thumbs up

Is it possible to change the R top triple with the S or will there be clearance issues with the handlebars hitting the fairing of the R?

Just came across this post. Nice job, this is what I think a lot of people would like to do.
