If I use ECM Spy can I do away with my TFI?

Im a newbie when it comes to tuning but from my understanding, if I tune the ECM with ECM Spy I can get rid of my TFI correct? Otherwise it would be like doing brain surgery to fix a problem while still doing shock therapy on the patient. Someone please verify this for me.
