Hey guys. Ive read these forums for a while and feel like this is a great place to get some info. Im a college student looking forward to buying a buell this coming spring and was wondering about a few things 1. For a guy with limited experience (riding 125 dirtbikes a few times) whats the better motor size 900 or the 12. The guy at my local harley place said that after a riders edge course, i would be ready for a 12 but i wanted to get some other opinions. 2. I was also wondering just how reliable these bikes have been for you, im in college, really wanna ride; but i cant really afford a bike thats gonna burn my wallet. Would really appreciate some feedback. Later.

I did the Riders Edge course and it worked out well..(used to riding in London, UK)..about 2 weeks later i bought the XB12S. I hadn't ridden in about 12 years so i was a little rusty and the biggest bike i had before was a 600.
You won't be disappointed with the 12...it has a bunch of power when you need it and if you have roads like i deal with in Vegas then that power is going to come in really handy driving amoungst the muppets on their cell phones and make-up applications.
I bought a 2005 with the Dunlop tires and i'm not too happy with them but the newer bikes after 2005 went to different tires and i hear they are way better.
Like azsnow said, don't tinker with it unless you know what your doing and enjoy the ride.

ok they both have alot of torqe. and lots of out of the hole power. The 9 revs a little higher than the 12. I cant really feel the differnce out of a curve on either. they both pull hard out of the apex. so take some demos and see witch one suites you best. If you can ride the 9 you can ride the 12. just my 2 cents.

thanks for the answers guys, one more thing for ya. As far as insuring either of the bikes, how would that work? Is it all by engine size or does age play into it? I havent checked out any quotes and at 21, im a little concerned. Thanks for the help!!

Both...

Yeah, either way you'll probably take a beating on insurance until you turn 25....at least mine did, went down by over half!!!!!!

I have StateFarm, and the price is very reasonable. When I was with progressive, and on a cruiser, I paid over $120 a month....but then again, I am over 25! One thing is for sure, either bike will be way cheaper than anything japan puts out.

I wonder if theres any difference between having an "s" or an "r".....never really checked but would be interested to find out. :D
