Here we go guys! I'm new here, but I'm going to make a thread with my experiences on installing the NHRS 1050cc Big Bore kit, Airbox Delete, Oil breather, lowering pegs, and a few other goodies over the next week. I have done some reasearch and I havent seen a lot of people who have any info on the 1050 kit, but Brian Dunn of NHRS has been a huge help with answering my questions regarding air/fuel mix, ECM turning , and more.

So far, my intent is to:

-Install the big bore kit.
-Replace Oil Breather Lines
-Add oil breather filter and spit can.
-Airbox Delete
-Replace Spark Plug lInes
-Add Stainless Washable high Flow OIl Filter
-New Oil will be redline racing, 20w - 50 full synth in the engine, and 90w full syth gear oil in the primary.

Also, just as background Info, the bike has a race ECM from EBR and the factory race exhaust.

I'm looking forward to comments and discussion on this as I tear it apart.... also , any engine dropping tips are appreciated.

90wt gear oil is roughly the same viscosity as 20w50 engine oil but it performs better in high contact pressure applications like gears in a transmission. You have to be careful with gear oil as many are corrosive to yellow metals now and dont have the proper friction modifiers for use with wet clutches.

Ive been running a motorcycle transmission oil lately with good results.

they also make this for harley primary but the big harleys have separate trans, primary, and engine oil. The above product is easy for me to find locally and is designed for transmissions and clutches.

DSchmidt54, any update on your 1050 kit? I've found that I have a rear cylinder base gasket leak and that I may need to replace my cylinders so I've considered the 1050 kit. I'd love to see a write-up somewhere on the process and experience/tools needed. Thanks, and good luck!

I plan on doing a 1050 kit next year some time probably ... definitely if I have any problems before then ... got an eye on this thread

theMelvster6, what was deciding factor to do head work first instead of the 1050 kit? I too plan to do both and was wondering which to do first. I might need to replace my rear head due to broken threads for the center tie bar, so I might be forced to do that one first.

From what I understand a 1050 kit is actually more like 1021cc which is only a 4% increase in cc's. Having the heads ported with bigger valves you'll see much satisfactory performance increase with the heads done with a proper tune. I also want to run my bike in scta land speed meets and stay in the 1000cc and under class. If your cylinders are scored and no good, sure I would have done the big bore. But at almost 20k miles, my bores in the cylinders were in excellent shape with minimal wear...but I found oil on the intake of of the rear head, the valve stem seal must have been leaking by. It all started with trying to fix the dreaded rear base gasket leak too...LOL
