Today I realized that my interactive exhaust valve doesnt work, I am not sure if there is a problem or if it is just that the race ecm maybe doesnt run it? Anyways while fooling around I manually pulled on the cable while it was running and really liked the effects.

This led me to the try running the bike with the valve tied open. and i love it! So I rerouted the cable to under the seat and put a piece of dowling in the cable to hold it open now if i want it loud or quiet I can just remove my seat and change it.

I am pretty happy with the results

I think it's a bad idea to leave tha valvu adjustable, I could be wrong though.

The Valvu works on the stock pipe and adjust per you RPM range. Not to adjust the sound. I would reccomend getting a new pipe or MOD'n the org pipe and ripping the guts out. You don't want the valve closing at the wrong RPM's. It'll restrict power.

Note I am not a tech'y, this is what I have been told by the dealership when I had inquiries about the actuator in the Pipe.

The Race ECM does shut of the Actuator sensor in the Airbox. making the bike feel it doesn't need it.

The Race ECM does not open and close the actuator valve. The Race ECM is designed to provide you a smooth and more powerful response from the motor with an exhaust modification. My suggestion is to go on Voodoo Fabrication and build your own pipe.

Dont most of the aftermarket pipes just make a less restricted path? I am thinking they do so by that thinking tying open the valve should do the same. I just like the fact that if i want less restriced louder exhaust i can have that and within five minutes I can have a nice quiet pipe which is nice for the long trips i go on.

I am also wondering if the race exhaust came with a interactive valve? I was always under the impression it did but then I am confused as to why the valve is disabled by the race ecm?
Thanks in advance

The race pipe dosn't have the valve. It's "open" all the time.

Remove that servo for weight savings at the top of your bike and gut your pipe.

the valve adjust to balance the backpressure for the engine. It adjusts to give the motor an even flow thru thr rpm range. It has nothing to do with sound, it's entirly about back pressure to the motor. Adjusting for you own prefference is fine, it will loss HP at certain rpm ranges. Unless you have the race air filter and AM exhaust theres really no need for the RACE ECM.

Since you've got the Race ECM, if you don't yet want to get a new can or DIY, it's fine to tie open the valve and take the servo assbly. completely off. Like some said, you'll lose a little grunt in certain areas, but it sounds like you've ran it tied open thus far, and are satisfied with it.

Thanks Grrr I have often worndered that since it sounds like ill never be able to see one up close haha. It does seem like it mightbe slightly less if you lug the engine a bit but up high it seems to have more power and a wide open throttle it seems to rev quicker so the valve being open actually suites my driving better than with it closed all the time.

I also do have the buell race air filter, the ecm and air filter are things that were installed before I bought the bike.

Thanks for the thoughts, I just wanted to post what I thought was an interesting and very easy to do mod.
