Introduction - New to me XB12R

Hey Buellers,

My name is Jacob, and I have had a hard on for an XB since they were introduced. I'm a 22 year old semi-pro Offroad/Motocross racer, and I've finally saved up enough money to buy my first Buell. Today I picked up an 05 XB12R with 15k miles for $1500 plus my 2002 XR650L which I valued at $2500.

The first thing I need to do to the bike is get the OEM tag holder, because here in FL you can get a $1000 fine for the hidden tags. I am the kind of guy that is capable to do small repairs myself, but usually end up paying a pro, because nothing goes right when I try to do it.

How hard is switching the tag mounts back to OEM? I will have to take a pic to show what my current set up is, and then start a thread if there isn't one already.

I hate the Bad web layout, that's why I'm on this forum. Plus people on here are just more mature.

As for the plate mounts, you'll have to take your seat off, then the plastic off the tail. It's not hard. 6 screws under the tail, then 3 screws on top. All T27 torx.

Welcome Jacob! American Sport Bike has A tag holder that will work for $59.00. I'm A old Fla. MXer from the 70s.

Hey Jacob, welcome aboard. All you really need is a 8 inch piece of angle iron, a hacksaw, a sander and some fancy spray paint, add in a dash of imagination and you will be golden. quite a bit cheaper than an oem plate holder unless you want the reflectors and stuff.

I have an extra stock license plate holder that I could drop in the mail if we can figure out shipping. I live in Phoenix, AZ. I rode up to the local HD dealer today, and found out that the OEM plate holder was only $22. I got one over-nighted so I will be legit tomorrow.

Bitter rod - I have the upgraded rear seat like the one shown above - the previous owner of my bike included it in the sale. I think it's called the touring pillion seat - it doesn't look like he ever used it. My wife will probably never ride on the back of my bike so if you'd like shoot me an email at [email protected] and we can work out the details.

yeah flip that bracket upside down from where it is now and re bend it and there bolt up the plate and away you go
