After a whole lot of BS with harley, I got the headlight recall done. It is a million times better (i can actually see at night), but the pattern seems weird. I don't know what its supposed to look like so can someone tell me if this is right. Bike is 03 XB9R.

****, i'm gonna have to take this whole thing apart. so the lights aren't even on the right sides?

I had mine done right after I
bought mine 3 months ago and they did the same thing! I just rode with my
hi beam switched on for a while until I swapped them around. You can also just
swap the wires for now

how hard was it? i have a few hours tomorrow i might be able to do it if it's not a big job
Do the dual on mod while you're in there
what is the benefit of this? I can just flip the high beams on and they will both be on [confused]

Benefit is having 2 lights on which increases the amount of light. More light means you can see better, plus people can see you better instead of pulling out in front of your bike[cool]

FIREBOLTS from the factory ALWAYS have the low beam on including when the high beam is on.

its really quick and easy. pull the signals and mirrors and windscreen bolts. then its just 4 bolts for the headlight. pull the rubber cap off the back of the housing and remove the other wire. swap them and reassemble.

Whoops, saw the post on home page.. didnt know firebolts had dual on off the floor.

Oh and by the way I was pretty sure mine pattern was the same as yours (i also got the recall done) but i didn't say anything because i wsn't 100% sure. anyway, I checked and mine is exactly like the pics you posted. The high beam is shielded half way. According to the manual this is not correct; however, i like it how it is. I leave brights on at all times. With the half shielded high beam it is less blinding to oncoming traffic, but it still lights up the road really well.

I put in new bulbs and never had to take anything off the bike. if you look under the fairing from the side you willsee the back of the light housing and the back of the bulb.........thats how i did mine and it only took 5 min or so.

if you call harley customer service, and spend 2 hours trying to find the right person to talk to, you will find that the recall was extended to Dec. 10, 2010....but no one knows this. its on "harley-net" or whatever they call their system, but i guess it was put where no one can find it

I got the extension letter in the mail, called local dealer and they said so sorry it's expired and you can have it done for $300 and change. I faxed the letter and it's now getting done tomorrow for free :D. Even if you get HD HQ on the line, they are pretty nice there, and get a requisition # for the service, the dealer will screw it up. I there is a PDF copy here somwhere and you could probably use that.

Could i get that copy? Or number?
And what is all this about new head lights? Whats wrong with the stock ones and what is better with the new ones and why did we replace them?

just leave the lights the way they are... all you need to do is swap the power wires on them. this way low beam will be always on as it should be, but it will be on the left side when sitting on the bike, rather than the right. this is better, in my opinion, in the USA, sine we drive on the right. the low beam will be closer to oncoming traffic, giving a few extra inches of safety at night
