Hello, my name is Jan and I live in Belgium. I've just bought a new Buell XB12Ss 2008. The first mod I want to do is to change the stock exhaust with an aftermarket open exhaust. Is it also necessary that the 2008 ECM needs to be remapped at the dyno when I've only changed the exhaust? Or will the original ECM 'learn itself'?

And what about this? One of the updates for the 2008 models vs. the 2007 models: -The fuel injection went to a one piece unit and no longer requires TPS Resetting/ECM Re-Flashing.
Can someone explain me what 'ECM Re-flashing means?

Grtz Jan ;)

Sorry folks, gonna do this in the native tonque ;)

jan, hey!

Okay, thanks LeFox. ;)

So, if you don't 'remap' the ECM with an open exhaust there will be damage at the engine, because he's running on a 'poorer mixture', right? That also applies to the 2008 models, yes? By the way, is ECM reflashing the same as resetting, or is the're a difference? I know, a lot of questions, but I really want to know everything about my new bike. :D

I would say, all technical information is welcome. :)

Oh yeah, I'm from a village 30 km's eastward from Antwerp. ;)

actually ecm-reflashing is has the same result as resetting, it's just another term.
reflashig comes from the computer businnes which is updating the cpu with new, better data.

the 2008 model cpu probably has 3 stored mappings. (this is the trend for every newer sport bike)
1- normal riding
2- sporty riding
3- hard riding
the ecm will adjust these maps according to your riding. these mappings are still made for the standard setup, thus not for aftermarket gear.

so when you do change exhausts, airfilters, etc you need to insert a mapping that works on your system so it doesn't run lean or rich and you get the best result for your setup and get a healthy running engine.

the price you pay now for a dyno tested mapping is around the same price as the race ecm.
but the race ecm isn't available for the 2008, yet (if it ever will be)

(btw: ik zit in gent ;))

Okay, thanks LeFox, that's a very clear explanation. ;)

See you maybe somewhere around in this little country called Belgium. :D
