The proper jetting will depend on LOTS of factors such as altitude, temp, mods and many others. Trial and error is pretty much the only way unless someone in your EXACT same area has done it before.

Follow this guide to the letter and you'll end up with a good running bike.

I would buy several mains and several pilot jets as well as a few shims for the needle; small washers normally work nicely. I wouldn't waste my money on the "jet kit". I had my Sportster running like a million bucks for about $10 in parts and a little time. My GSXR was a bit more expensive and a lot more involved but it had 4 carbs and they needed rebuilt.
Good luck

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I may pick up the main and pilot jets; plus the shims? I live in the boonies and would prefer an online dealer.

Thanks!

Stop - way to complicated - just get a 45 slow/pilot jet and a 170 main at any HD or Kawi shop - KLR uses simular carb - then get 2 #4 washers and shim the needle - turn air-screw 2 2/3 out.

EZ-- If I understand your post in a different area about carb tuning, if I use a HD 27100-88 needle jet, then I wont have to use the shims. Correct? You wouldnt by chance know what the Kiehen # equivalent is so I dont have to get raped at the Harley shop????
