i wore my stock rear down so far i had 4 rows of cord showing. kinda scary when i felt it deflated and realized i was within a mile of a blow out. well a buddy of mine aware of my dire need for rubber was up late browsing craigslist when he found a brand new set of dunlop qualifiers in the oem sizing for my buell. priced a a low low 150 bucks for the set. he txted me with the info and i scooped them up. put the rear on last night and will be putting on the front this morning. so far the tire seems quality. it was perfectly balanced and required no extra work. hopefully the front is the same. just a little fyi for others. we used a wide floor jack with rubber padding and just lifted the bike via rear of exhaust towards the kickstand and it worked jsut fine, no dents in the can, or instability. we'll do the same for the front.

just be careful of the date code on the tire, if they are old, they can have very small "cracks" that may not be able to be seen with the naked eye. your life isn't worth saving 50 bucks!!!

other than that, sounds like a good deal.

ok i checked them they are the sportmax qualifier and the date code looks like 4007? so april 2007?

Even though I hate the Dunlops I got a front tire brand new off a guy on Ebay for $40 delivered. It came at a good time but I don't like them if I have a choice. My rear Dunlap just went south and is showing a little cord and partial stripe. I just got a Power Pilot from Rocky Mountain ATV for $98 + $7 delivery. Front is $83. I'll order that in July.

yea i wanted to get power pilots but it was going to hurt my wallet bad. the price is right and I ride a lot. i just got the bike in january and i'm at 5300miles. And the long ride season is just kicking off for me. i figure by end of summer i'll need another set.

If 4007 are the last 4 numbers on the tire then is was made the 40th week of 2007, so Octoberish.

He's just talking about old tires...if someone was selling off a set of tires they had sitting in their garage for 10 years they might look fine but the rubber might be breaking down, depending on conditions of storage. End of 07 isn't too old, so not much worry there.

i have the dunlop qualifiers and they seem to be pretty decent. i dont have anything to compare it to though. so my next set will be michelin pilot 2ct or the power pure. then i should be able to make a good conclusion.

You really have to ride back to back with someone who's got Pilots or Corsa's or Metzler M3's. Big difference.

have you ridden the qualifiers or other dunlops? i know dunlop had a bad reputation until these tires came out. i have read pretty good reviews about them. they are moving in the right direction anyway. im sure the q2 improves upon the original qualifier design.

im sure there is also a reason everyone runs michelin or pirelli though. i have ridden the regular diablo on my friends cbr but i dont ride other peoples bike like i ride my own.

I get mine from a mech. at a medium sized bike shop. Had like 6-7 brand new rear tires next to his tool box. 100$ installed. Stopped in the other day, he no longer worked there. The guy next to him had 10+ tires. Got my front for 75$. Installed

Few months ago I got Shinko Ravens brand new from bikebandit.com for like $140 and some change...

i am not saying there is a batch of "cracked" tires, just that any tire after a certain amount of time can develop cracks that are unable to be seen. this was just covered in the january cycle world. depends on how and where the tires were stored.

from dunlop's website;

WHAT IS WARRANTED
Every new Dunlop motorcycle tire that becomes unserviceable within six years or 72 months of the date of manufacture for conditions other than those which are listed under "WHAT IS NOT COVERED" will be replaced on the basis specified under "REPLACEMENT COST" below.

I used to do track days at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix and rode a number of 9R's and 12R's with different tires, this was a number of years ago though, 2006 I believe so they could have gotten better since.
