I have been eyeing up a 2000 Blast that is for sale near me. I have read the early years had some problems. What are the usual problems with an early Blast and how do you fix them? Anything else to look for when shopping for a Blast? This would be my first bike.

Thanks,
HH

I rode a 2001 or 2003 (don't remember) for a year straight as a daily driver. Had a couple issues but nothing serious. The neutral safety switch sucked when it went out but mostly because it was 5am and I was on my way to work.

I really enjoyed my blast. Only issue I had was the rocker box leaking at the top of the engine. I'm a mechanic so it was an easy fix. Original was a cardboard type gasket but the upgraded gasket is metal and rubber. Only reason I got rid of the blast is because I wanted an 1125r so badly I could taste it. The 1125r was cool. The blast was a lot more comfy and stunk less. Kind of miss it. It quivers pretty good. It's not a race bike. Good mileage. Easy to work on. Cheap to insure.

The 2000 was the first year. I think there was a recall of the rear pulley. The cool thing was I think it came with stainless steel brake lines and had a beefier engine mount. The 2000 was faster than subsequent years due to the pulley change.

However, if you don't change the pulley per the recall, you risk the pulley exploding and personal injury.
