So back in July I broke my ankle and wrist after a riding over a crosswalk and then having about a 5 second serious conversation with my bike.
Long story short the Steeltoe Navy flight deck boots and Troy Lee Designs leather gloves I was wearing didn't cut it. At only about 15 miles an hour or so I high-sided after flopping around a bit and my ankle (Tibia and Fibula both) gave way like a twig underfoot, except the foot was my brand freakin' new 1125R. Then of course I caught myself and without wrist protection broke it (Scaphoid). I can post pictures if anyone is interested. The hardware in my ankle is pretty intense, 2 plates and 8 screws in there.
I felt pretty dumb, Impatience got the best of me at a stop sign, I was trying to beat a long line of traffic that was coming. Sarah (my bike) taught me an important lesson in patience and self-control for sure.
So now I will not be getting back on a motorcycle without proper protection designed for saving your hide in the worst of situations. Mostly because I'm tired of being hurt and don't want to do it again, partly because if I get hurt again I'll get the boot from the Navy. Not that I plan on having another incident, you just never know what everyone else on the road will have to say about that.
In your experience what Is a boot with superior ankle/leg protection? looking for front to back, side to side, and roll protection, all the way up the boot or as close to as possible. Also, I need gloves with good wrist protection in the event of having to catch myself. I'm in the market for a one piece or two piece suit as well, but not trying to break the bank. The suit isn't as important in my opinion.
Any crash test experience? What is your story? How did your gear do?
