i am currently looking at 2006 Buell Firebolt XB12R but also was looking at 2006 Ducati Superbike 749 Dark. which is the better bike overall?
the Buell has 2064 miles and is $5999.

the Ducati has 11955 miles and is $5999.

was told by the dealer it might be harder for me to get repairs done on the Buell if or when i might need any since Harley Davidson took them over.

i had an 02 748 what piece of **** buy the buell . ducati needs to be serviced every 6k miles valves checked it isnt worth the service costs unless you have alot of money to spend

True, however the service will be much easier on the Buell and you might be able to do it yourself with the help of forum members, and it will definetly need less maintenance than the ducati. Sorry to say just about as many people want to work on italian sportbikes as buells.

Had a 1098, 6k service was over $800 and I changed the oil, removed all plastics. Killer bike though.....glad to be back on a Buell where I can do all the work myself.

Your best bet would be to ask around and see how the local Ducati service is. Here in Pittsburgh we only have one Ducati dealership, and after previous dealings with them the only way I would ever buy a Ducati is if I was up to the task of doing absolutely all maintenance to it myself. I'm not too crazy about having someone else do my work anyway, so it's unlikely I'd ever take my Buell or even any other Japanese bike anywhere to be worked on. I just know the chances of my letting someone else in this city touch a ducati are 0%

Obviously you're gonna get some biased opinions on this site and no one's gonna want to recommend the ducati over a buell. If you ask the question at a ducati site they're all gonna tell you buells suck. The general motorcycle public will probably tell you to get the ducati because most people love them and think Buells are slow, even though they've never seriously ridden one. It looks like the 749 only has 3 more hp and weighs 20lbs more, so the ride is probably gonna be pretty similar. You'll have to take the maintenance schedules and costs into account and then decide which you'd rather have. Speaking of maintenance, keep in mind the Buell is aircooled and will never need the valves checked(hydraulic lifters), so maintenance is super low and easy.

I would also go with the BUELL , lower milage , lower maintenance, and when you need help doing any maintenace all of us Buellers here on this forum (and some other forum too) can and WILL help you or explain or show you how , lots of great how to write ups & how videos here on BUELLXB.com. and in the end the buells are now a bit more rare and you will be riding a Very Unique motorcycle and you probably wont see many if any others like it on the road with you. You will get lots of attention on it and gett ask about it alot , people cant figure out what it is with its looks & sound. You will definetly stand out on the crowd with the BUELL.

here check out some of the threads and websites/links
they can help you out alot in your decision and help you with lots of info for when you buy that Buell.

BUELL! Easy choice. Even if the Ducati had the same mileage. Ducati is an nice bike. More of a second or third bike in my opinion tho.

indeed... I could preach more... but most of the important stuff has already been said.

Buells have:
cheaper maintenance
easy maintenance
cheaper insurance
awesome handling
Parts for about 6 more years still
attitude
cheaper parts
great enthusiasts who are always willing to help

Had a ducati before, and loved the bike for what it was, but hated the cost of maintenance and parts.
