After doing a short search and having no experience whatsoever with the tuber models personally ... I'm asking the people that do own tubers about the possibility of changing an M2 into an S1 ...

Is this something that can be done? ... are only certain parts interchangeable? .... I'm absolutely in love with the tuber models and I'd love to have an S1 or X1, but there is an M2 sorta-kinda for sale semi-locally to me and I'm just playing around with ideas if I do decide to try and get my hands on it ...

Pretty easy. I did my old 2000 M2 after I wrecked my S1
About the only thing that isn't inter-changeable is the rear tail section.
But that can be done with a little work. You would just need to
shorten the tail frame the just re-angle the it up a little bit.
Just a little cut and weld. Then install an S1 tail

Really?... That awesome!....

What are the main differences between the two parts wise (if ya know right off the top of your head)... So I'd know exactly how much of a bear this would be to wrestle....

I dont have all the parts handy, but if you are interested i can email you pics of my S1, i have a 1997, and the rear body work pieces come off easily, can send you pix of the body work and frame work, I have a M2 frame sitting here as well but its rather buried at the moment and not easily accessible, I HAVE laid them up next to each other and ANIMOSITY is correct, Most of the frame is the same except the tail section, Its much wider to support that bodywork and bigger seat. I bought a parts bike some time ago for parts for one of my other projects, and I sold some stuff (The luggage,, big freaking suitcases, rather a clever design,) but i kept the M2 tank, the frame and some other odds and ends.
I figured if i wrecked my S1 i would have a spare frame and can fab the rear tail section for the S1 or mod it, (S1 frames arent easy to find) and the M2 tank is interesting in that it appears it will interchange but seems bigger, kinds of a touring tank vs the sporty S1 tank.
If you want to redo the M2 into S1 style, best place to start is get the Factory parts books for each. Ill help as time permits. I DO AGREE though,, a Tuber S1 is a cool bike.
One thing to note, is that its hard to keep tank decals on them, the fuel vapors go thru the plastic bodywork and bubble up the Buell logos, When i redo my S1 this fall,, im looking at sticking new logos onto a piece of plastic or rubber, then gluing that to the tank
I DO have a M2 plastic tail piece and seat Ill sell you, was planning on putting it on Feebay this weekend:D

Correction, I believe the parts bike frame and body work i have are off of a S3 thunderbolt, not an M2, according to a wiki page im reading, its looks like the M2 is a comprimise between the S1 and S3 so somewhere in between.
but i would be happy to email you pictures of what i have if it helps

The S1 did have the wider tank (like the M2) on the S1W.
And as far as the tail, all I did was chop the end off the frame and take a few inches out, then re weld the end back on. Then, cut the rear frame down/support tubes, down by the Bat, bend the frame up to match the S1 seat pan, then bent the support tubes , and weld them back the the frame. Took about 30 min. minus paint and prep of the welds.

Here are the pics (OLD PICS) of my M2 with an S1 tail. Only pics I have.

WOW,,, a Thundering Bumblebee!!! Nice looking bike.
My S1 is Black bodywork and currently has the PM wheels, I owe the original owner the wheels back, and forks, and brakes as he has some poorly formed idea of using them on a HD big twin chopper monstrosity. Was part of the deal, Thats why i purchased the other buell parts bike,, It appears the forks & brakes are better anyway.
My plan was to paint the stock wheels i got to replace the PMs Nuclear Blue and the SI frame the Nuc Blue as well as IMHO I think it would look really great against the black bodywork,
However, after a visit with Squidbuellie down in the bay area he suggested i upgrade the bike to the XB wheels and forks, Which,, another lister has done and documented on here. Tempting tempting.
AKA as Mission creep.
I have a collection of Buell bits already,, so another idea would be if i have it all down this fall is upgrade the top end, cams and other bits to XB specs, but that might be overkill. we shall see.
Regardless, Id be happy to share pix of my parts if it helps on your projects, or if you need measurments. Ive got a growing collection of parts books and manuals, You can download some of them for free off Badweatherbikes Knowledge vault. But i like to have a hard copy in my hands.
(You could down load the PDFs, put on a thumb drive and take to a printer or copy shop):)

Now that's what I'm talking about... All solid answers... Much appreciate the info peeps...

And Internet Annoyance thanks for the offer of help... You're alright in my book, I don't care what they say aboutcha... Hahaha...

Now to see if i can get my hands on one of these things... The M2's seem to pop up for sale here and there... But S1's and X1's are pretty rare as far as I've seen... Especially around here.....

That looks NICE, plus some nice upgrades, wonder what he did to it though to warrant a new top end at 6k miles?
But other than that looks good.
Iowa isnt that far if you dont mind dodging Tornados, rain storms, Hail stones and flying clouds of locusts,

It's in my hometown...it's a nice bike. Harley owner though!

Still, not my bike lol. I'm an XB guy

Hahaha .... I most certainly do NOT mind long treks on a 2-wheeler ... I rode from louisiana to tennessee and back to ride the dragon with friends .... and I did that on my 07 Gixxer 600 ...

That's so freaking tempting ...
