I was just getting my 08' xb12Ss ready for spring when I noticed a hose located very close to the header on the rear cylinder. It was melted to it. What does this hose do and how was it supposed to be routed? Anyone have a moment to take a pic of theirs. It looks like a pain in the arse to replace.

I had the same thing happen, its the transmission breather hose and runs up through the left side of the frame and wire ties to too of rear shock, and yes its a pain to replace, its wire tied to quite a few things on its way and is in a tight area, I actually cut my bad section out and spliced it right there once I gave up on removing it. Just be sure to tie it back from header when you fix it

thats the normal routing its just wrong.i stepped down a size in hose and routed it between the starter and the cyl and up to its original position on the rear shock

What a PITA!!!
I just finished my hidden brembo mod, plugged in a EBR ECM, with a Jardine, cut off the cheese grater and was excited becouse the snow is almost gone. The bikes are coming out of hibernation.

I was just changing the oil and cleaning it when I noticed friggin the hose. What a crappy job routing it.

Any idea on what to use to splice it with??

Thats the vent hose for Tranny . You will need to get some (see the silver) shielding, Possible American Sport bike OR the Dealership if you have a good dealer nearby. While the bike is cold Remove your Seat. Cut the Zip tie that is holding the hose IT MAY be tied to the Shock Spring.Gently wiggle it out thru., the area that you see right in your picture. Above the Starter. Cut it and pull a new one to where you can mend it.A(brass air hose coupling)1/4 or 3/8 should work. You shouldn't need to put any Clamps on it . My 08-XB12r-Bolt I reinsulated so that wouldn't happen to me.Look around at some Auto parts Stores. MAKE SURE it's the same Shielding as you see on your Starter wires For that works Best. I ordered mine from HD because they are BUELL friendly at this time.It comes as a kit.But auto stores Napa/Pep boys/Auto zone ETC..May have it.MAKE SURE TO Insulate the Vent hose after your repair. SO that brass coupling does not rub a hole through the Exhaust over time. Hope this will help you.

yeah, I used a double male vacuum hose splice and some small hose clamps. if you're not adding a section of hose you'll have to cut the wire tie on the sock and pull on it at bad end to get alittle slack to splice it and to be able to tie it away from header.

Thanks guys for the advice. I guess this is something that was not recalled. Too bad but it is not something that is critical just a pain.

Sorted this problem out on my bike yesterday. Not too difficult. Took me about an hour. The most troublesome thing was getting the damn hose-clamp off. It's in a tight spot. The routing of the new hose was a breeze. The new one is steel-coated (dont know if that is the correct description)but I made sure to zip-tie it away from the header anyway. :)
