Does anyone have a set of pilot powers installed and if so what kind of mileage do you get out of them? im asking because the local tire shop has a set front and rear for 209 plus 20 per wheel install. I was looking at the pilot roads which should get better mileage and the best price i could find was on the internet for 223 free shipping. im trying to deside between those two...

Get the pilot power 2's. I've had mine for 4000mi and they r still in great shape. They ride awesome too. smooth, quiet and lots of grip

How hard in the center compound on those? I have heard that its as soft as the regular powers.

Yes I do...but I don't pay attention to the milage.
I like the tires..when they need replacing, they get replaced.

well i just purchased a set of pilot roads. got them from 217 shipped to my door. I dont do extreme riding and its pretty hard to do in ohio. they prob will grip good enough those couple of times at the dragon for some spirited riding.

I have the pilot road 2ct on my bike and love them. They have 4500miles on them now and show little signs of wear and are still soft enough on the sides to throw it over in a corner. Excellent choice imo.

I can put my feelers down with the road2's

I cant speak on millage yet because I only have about 1,500 on them but I was able to put about 6k total (if they really had 1k when I got the bike) on my powers before I was too scared to ride them in the wet. they were never awesome in the wet to begin with but as you get to the wear bars they get down right squirrley. with michigan roads the center was flat and the sides were still good, they had fantastic dry grip but my road2's do nearly as well with better wet grip.

Here you go. All about the Michelins

so the 2CT power is only of use if you get right down to the last 11% of tire on the edges; I bet the average riders chicken strips are bigger than that section.

I bet when I drag my drop pegs along I am only getting half of that extra compound.

granted with my last set of powers I was comfortable dragging standard pegs and may have benefited from the second compound there but on the daily commute it just isn't necessary

I just don't trust my road2's like that yet but we will see

Not necessarily. Read note 1 (very small print):
Diagrams illustrate the distribution of the different rubber mixtures on two compound tires. Rubber mixtures vary according to each product's intended use.

It's quite possible that the base compound of the Pilot Power and Pilot Power 2CT are different.

from my understanding they both have a shore hardness of 58 in the center and the 2ct adds a 20% softer shoulder to the mix at 10% and 11% front and rear respectively.

The original, single-compound Pilot Power (which is still available, BTW) is a great tire for road or track riding, but the Pilot Power 2CT adds the extra edge grip from having a 20% softer compound on the tread shoulders. Tread life should be about the same, since both share the same compound in the middle of the tread. But Pilot Power 2CT tires provide some additional cornering adhesion for track days, with greater durability in most situations than a pure racing tire like Power Race.

here is thelink its a good article.

did your article have a shore from the single compound power?

because when I looked I found maybe half a dozen articles stating
Shore hardness measurements - 58 - confirm that the Michelin Pilot Power is the softest of the Hypersport tires currently available on the market.
verbatim
so I would guess that it was from an official press release

Here's something I'd like to hear, has anyone done any knee dragging with Pilot Road 2ct tires? Is that pushing the tire past its limit?

Yeah, except for track days, PR2s are the way to go. I've got nothing left of the strips, front or rear, and have never had any "oh shit" moments because of the tires.

The guy at the tire store said to expect 4-5k from PP2s, and 8k from PR2s, and that was before he knew I was there because I was fed up with the 3k that DCIIIs gets.

That confirms it for me.
not saying its gospel because its there but they are normally a fairly reputable source.

I have talked to a few that claim to have done it, one on an R1 the other a uly of all bikes. (you should have seen his pegs it was incredible he had ground maybe 30% of the stock uly peg away not just feelers but the whole peg) I get close by dragging my feelers but have not personally put a knee down with them.
