Hi, I just found two buells xb9sx for sale. Both are 2009 and well maintained. Only difference is the mileage. One of them has 7500 miles and the other has 15600. The low miles bike is ~800$ cheaper than the other. What you suggest? 15500 miles is too much for the xb9sx engine?

Thanks,

Alecs

It's not too much. I would consider anything under 20k to be average and in ok shape, anything under 10K to be the way to go.

With the 7500 mile bike being $800 cheaper, why would you even consider the other one?

Right now prices on Buells are all over the place. Some are cheaper because Buell is no more and people don't want to deal with it, and some are ridiculously high because people think they're instantly collectors items and worth way more, so you can't assume that just because one is priced different that it means it's worth more.

I picked up my 2003 xb9 with 3400 miles in June for $3200, but I see people trying to sell the same bike, same year with 18-20k miles for more than that, so it all depends what the seller wants.

I think how old it is and how long its been sitting is more important than the actual mileage. I've got 24K on my 2003.

Do you have a feel for who the owners are and how well the bikes were maintained? Theres a big difference between a truly well maintained bike, and a bike who's owner just kept it garage kept and cosmetically clean.

I check for lots of things when I look to buy a bike. I casually touch the cylinder to see if the owner "prewarmed" it before I showed up. From my experience, some owners will warm up bikes with starting issue before you come; so when you arrive it cranks right up.

I also check the tires to see what kind of rider they were. Chicken strips ect. This is kind of random but it helps me develop a feel for the situation.

I'd take a bike with more mileage over a bike thats been sitting a long time.
