Alright so I decided to make this thread to get opinions on some things, and simply because I had a hard time with it. I had a hard time finding a DIY thread that showed in detail what I needed to know. So Ill start where I started.

First off, my bike:

2005 Buell Lightning XB12scg
-Hawk Performance Exhaust
-Renthal ultra low bars
-2010 Black Side rails
-Original Buell Carbon Fiber, Mixed with ASB carbon fiber (which matches the Buell carbon pattern)
-Axle Sliders (with special Thanks to Anrkizm95)

Ive always prefered the look of the firebolt front and finally decided to do it when I came across a fairing and headlight assembly at a good price thanks to Jakestolar.
So my project began.
I used this thread to get a good understanding of what to do.
S to R DIY

I began Just like he did.

Everything went well until I got to the part with connecting the R headlights to the S main harness. This is the main reason Im doing this thread because this is where I was caught up.
What I did, the easiest way, was cuz off the connector from the R headlight.

and cut the connector off of the S main harness. Once you have this, you will see 3 wires coming off of the R lights. Black = Ground, Yellow = low beam, White = High beam. There should be 4 wires coming off of the S wire harness. Black = ground, White = High beam, Yellow = Low beam, and Orange = Running light. I connected crimp connectors to all of the 7 wires. 4 male and 3 female.

Now, in order to get the correct sequence of one light on for low beam and both on for high, you do this.
From R to S, black to black, white to white, and yellow to orange. There will be a yellow wire left over from the S harness, this is not needed and can be capped off.
With all that said and done the rest is plug and play, I had to relocate my horn in order to make room for the blinker switch, but other than that everything else works.

Im still waiting on my bars to come in, so Ill have pics of that when they do. But here it is.

I had the fairing buffed out and bought a carbon fiber windscreen and carbon fiber headlight bezels (which are coming in on friday with my bars).
Now I am debating wether or not to keep the lightning cheese grater or not. opinions?

This was my biggest build on the bike yet and I wanted to thank everyone for their help finding parts. Id also like to thank Freak2180 for the wiring help, and Wolfo68 and oh9bolt for their help as well.

thanks! Just have to get the bars on and the bezels.

I also need to repaint the header wrap, the car wash took all the black paint off.

No thanks for DustyXB [sad]

Im just kiddin man. Looks good! I've been one of the many wanting to put an S tail on my R.

No thanks for DustyXB

I need to thank like 10 others on here for their help and for all the parts. so thank you all!

and yea I have a spare cheese grader so I think I will chop it and see how I like it. That way I have both and can switch them out.

bike is almost done. The camera phone in the workshop is pretty poor quality, Im hoping for a sunny day here, without ice rain.

I do need some ideas though. I am trying to figure out how to rearrange my clutch cable. any ideas? it is pretty long because its from the lightning. I would like to just keep that and the brake line. The brake line is also pretty close to my speedo when I turn.

Take it back apart and paint your fairing stay black...

You can thank me later :D

Looks awesome BTW. Any chance you still have that S front end?

looking good

Thanks!

SOB!!

I thought about that too, [mad] well I have all winter to do that. Right now im just trying to figure out what to do with the clutch cable so that its not in front of my speedo.

as far as the S front end goes, I still think im going to hang on to it. What do you need for your conversion?

Only thing you can do (that I know of) with the cable is see if someone wants to trade you for an R one. I also suggest hitting up xbdashboards and getting a new faceplate. I love mine looks awesome and it was only like $15 shipped from France!

I don't need anything yet. I had the front end of my R off this morning and was kind liking the look of it all minimal. Just tossing around the idea is all.

oh ok. Yea i actually have a new faceplate, I just havent installed it yet. Its on my to do list. I should probably do that when I paint the fairing stay.

That's what I did. Well I had to fix it after it broke. Wish I knew how to weld aluminium... But I got it all knocked out at the same time. Be VERY careful when you're pulling off your needles. Two spoons worked best for me, and be sure to check the alignment of the needles before you reassemble.

looks great[up][up][up]swap cables to an R and you're set, maybe look at wrapping your fairing stay in the CF look instead of painting it black, just a thought:D

Yea I think ill shop around for an R cable and an R break line.
So the to do list.

-get R clutch cable/R brake line.
-Change Speedo Faceplate
-Paint Fairing Stay Black
-Alot of clean up

Anyone have an R clutch cable or brake line laying around??
