been wrestling the new Vance & Hines. I cant get the mesh exhaust gasket (book calls it 1. Gasket, exhaust port) (dealer calls it Seal, exhaust 65324-83B). the new pipe flange end fits into exhaust port/motor without that mesh gasket. does this new setup not use gasket? - . the thin retaining ring no issues. fits and clocked..
Side note, when I pulled out old busted up factory exhaust pipe that old mesh gasket was not there.

ok txs. it don't make sense but then it just has no way to fit that gasket that I can figure out

Pics would help, but every bike I've ever worked on REQUIRED an exhaust gasket at the head. The slip fit for a muffler to header may not require it (mine don't) but they'll always use one between the header and exhaust port from the engine.

The mesh is usually so packed in the port it looks like its part of the head. Im sure there is a gasket in there. When its pulled out you will see a nice sharp bottom counter bore.

I thought I replied before but I don't see it here. I wanted to thank you guys for leading me to use that gasket. It did work. It just didnt seem right but its needed! The old mesh gasket, despite it being almost new had just worn/fallen away. The factory exhaust system is a poor design and was just plain cheap crap materials and all parts cracked and or fell apart. We even literally had a mid (half) piece of the exhaust pipe split apart and fall off on the freeway. Very Bizarre!
