im a new guy here and was wondering what the difference is between a xb9 and a xb12?? ive ridden bikes before,(i also race quads, and dirtbikes)but this will be my first real "street bike". my dad just got rid of his cyclone and i loved it since i was little. so my big question here is, what would be the better bike to start with??

thanks in advance

depends on a lot of things.

i have an xb9s with a race ecm and exhaust and it's all the power i need. there are times i wish i had more power, but not often.

either way you can't go wrong.

Hi and welcome
the xb9 and xb12 are much the same machine basicly the xb12 is approx 300cc bigger so has more torque and low down grunt with easier overtaking.
The xb9 revs higher and is a better engine to tune both good to ride but i think if you bought an xb9 you would soon want to move to a xb12 try both before you buy if you can either way they will have superb handling

aAlso how is working on them? How reliable are they? I have a background on the Cyclones but I dont know to much about the xb's. Thanks again.

Advice for 9 & 12 differences: Thread 1 and Thread 2

They're very DIY friendly. And they're as reliable as you are on the "upkeep", for the most part. '07 is probably the premiere year model as it had most of the recalls fixed by then, but still retained the user-friendly ECMSpy programming for the ECM.
Here's a thread to help out on seeing year model differences: Year Model Differences

What were the recalls, anything really bad? If i do go to look at a bike what should I be looking for? Thankk for the input guys

I agree with Stevenc150, the bikes are very easy to work on, more so than most jap bikes. For one, just about everything you need to service is easy to get to. you dont have to take off many of the other parts to get to what you need to service, unlike most other bikes. For example; I have to just about dismantle my CBR fairing to change my oil, and to check the coolant levels. The nakedness of the bikes really helps out with that.

look at his link above to check out recalls. pretty informative.
