needing a battery

So I go out for a ride stop to see a friend and when I try to start the bike it hardly turns over. The display screen went blank when turning over and once the bike finally started it displayed "voltage error". To top it off my alarm on my bike started going off and I didn't have the key fob[sad] I had to ride home with the alarm going off I got a few strange looks lol.
Anyways my battery reads 15.3 volts with the bike off and 14.6 running it has the stock battery so i'm just going to start with replacing it and checking grounds while replacing the battery. I went to interstate batteries and they have one for $79 but it doesn't come filled or charged and its rated at 200cca and this is the only battery they have. I would like to find one with the most cold cranking amps possible and was looking at the 12 cell ballistic batteries. Does anyone have experience with this battery or any suggestions on what one I should go with?

Back up a minute. 15.3 off and 14.6 running?????? Those numbers are extreme high. Before replacing pull the battery and have it load tested, it sounds like there might be other issues at work here.

Isn't 14.6 running what it should be? I was thinking the 15.3 with the bike off was really high but that was right after riding it home so it could have came down now ill go check but I figured it being that high would be a short in the battery. I will get it load tested tomorrow but if it is bad what cca should i be getting 200 seams low.

14.6 is fine as long as the battery is recieving current for charging. However, the battery at rest should be 12.6 volts. Like Kruizen said, load test the battery and work from there. That 15.3 is troubling.

I check it after letting it sit and it sits at 14.4 I think the battery its toast and my alarm armed its self and my fob is dead and i lost the charger lol ordered a new charger for it now to wait.... [mad] If the battery tests bad what cca Barry should i get?

220 or 230 cca sticks in my mind.

An 08 has the lower amp charging, I have the 08 set-up with oil hole on my 09, and I never see above 14.2 with bike running but mainly 13.6-8 running.

Load test that thing.
