Got a 2003 xb9r about a year ago. Previous owner seemed to have not cleaned the wheels at all. I have the silver wheels with the polished lips. Not sure if this is original, but I'm trying to bring the polish back on the lip. I'm getting there it is just taking forever. So just wanting to see any other ways out there y'all may know. I'm using a product known as metal gloss and just elbow grease.

the lips weren't polished. if they were polished, someone did it themselves. I got a nice mirror-like shine from slowly going from a rough sand paper to a finer one. if you use 4000 grit for your final you should see a nice finish.

I used mothers mag polish, it took a couple goes at the rim lips with it but they look like a mirror now.

did you just polish the lip on the brake side of the front wheel, i noticed the machined part doesnt flow up on to the rim like the other side, i was thinking of hitting the spokes with some gloss black and polishing the lips

When i had my 03 with the silver rims with polished lips i used WD-40 and a light bristle brush on the spokes and Boyd Coddington mag polish on the lips and they cleaned up very well. Like Kab i had to do the lips a couple times but it worked good.

Yeah one side is a little deeper on the front wheel. I haven't been able to get the entire rim done due to long hours at work, but it's getting there. That's the reasoning behind the question;) to see if there is a faster way with the good results. I will get a pic on tomorrow of what it looked like before and what I have been able to do. Also has anyone had luck with one of those wheel cones you attach to a drill to polish or maybe I should say buff out the oxidation?

My buddy just got an '03 with the same wheels and he's having the same issue. these things look like they haven't been touched In years and they are taking foreever to come clean

Almost anywhere that sells polish or car washing stuff you can buy the mothers powerball, its pretty pricy and makes a hell of a mess but its alot faster.read the package on the cone type drill polishers because some are made for different types of metals and can make things worse.

Squidbuellie were those rims heavily oxidized? If so what did you use to get the shine to come back and how long did it take ya?:)

Anyone every done a how to on the steps taken to take a full powder coated set and make the bare lip?

also, that a powder coat or paint on them, looks really good, basically the direction i was going to go with my bike

I'm still trying to get these pics up here. Having trouble uploading them from my iPhone. If someone knows how it will be appreciated. Every time I go to my pics the upload jpeg is not available.
