I'm going to be insulating the inside of the frame of my 05 XB9SX, and was just wondering if anyone else has done it / has any recommendations on what material to use. There's always Dynamat, but I was looking around and saw a thread on BWB where somebody used a fiberglass insulated material on the inside of theirs. I was also looking around and found these:

Just looking for some guidance.

Just for those searching on this subject, I ended up lining my frame with this material:

I got a 2' x 21" piece, and have over half left. There is a noticeable reduction in heat. Here are some pics, but it was really hard to take them without removing the engine completely.

Not that hard.

I used the Thermo-tec sheets.

I cut a piece of cardboard to fit the area I wanted to cover, then transfered that pattern to the insulation.
Don't worry about doing a whole area in one piece, as I recall, I did mine in two parts per side, then a coupla smaller pieces around the front of the frame.

I also sealed the edges with plain ol aluminum HVAC tape to keep water, oil, other garbage out from soaking into the edges of the insulation.

Made a noticable difference...
Since the engine heat is not being soaked into the frame/gas any longer, the fan actually turns on sooner and runs a little longer...!
That's a good thing.
That goes along with much more HOT day comfort on my right leg.

Well worth the coupla hours of work.

I used the thermotec strips for the frame and the underside of the airbox. I did notice the fan running a little longer.
I would take Mike's suggestion to seal the edges with some other kind of tape. I think one of my strips is starting to dry a little and come loose (maybe from the heat), even though I wiped the frame down with alcohol before applying it.
