New 09 Scg and it already left me stranded...

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I just picked up my 09 Scg Friday.. and put the first 320 on it saturday. I hate to hear this. I'll be picking up some fuses this week...

I got some news... The dealer called and told me it was ready to be picked up. I asked what did they find and they stated that there was a loose ground wire, causing the pump fuse to blow. They also stated that the battery charge was low, and they blamed the same ground; they recharged the battery. As for the front rocker leak, they stated it was a loose crankcase breather. They never did tell me what they did about the rear brake squeal; since it's going to rain throughout the weekend, I'll ask them to keep it 'till next Tues or Wednesday and have them check the brakes.

On the meantime, I'll go out and get more mini 10Amp fuses...

Bad news... the bike ran for a couple of days and left me stranded again on the side of the highway, in early morning rush hour traffic. Replaced the fuse and got it to run again. I called the dealer again and they asked me if I could bring the bike in again. So far it's been three weeks since I dropped it off and no answer. They've been on the phone with HD trying to find a solution. They did find a truble code, but it didn't show in the system. A new replacement fuel pump was authorized by HD and now am awaiting for the parts to arrive.

I'm contemplating trading her in on a Night Rod Special. With all the city traffic I travel in, a liquid cooled bike may just be what I'm looking for...

...more to come...

09 scg did the same thing lucky i was in my garage.replaced it hasnt been a problem since 6500 miles ago.ive heard of other 09s doing this once and then are fine

Crap, my '09 Xb12Ss has done the same to me twice so far... Guess it's time to swap back to the stock exhaust and bring her in to the dealer...

Replacing the fuel pump should fix the issue.

15k miles on my '09Scg and ZERO issues here... guess I am lucky.

ok guys i need to bring this thread back .This happened to me on the weekend ..half tank of fuel warm day and a little carpark stop starting etc.Went into shop about 5 mins came out fan still running (no prob so far) start bike and ride a hundred meters then a chug and stopped.Restart tried but it would just crank.Luckily and thanks to those that post here i had read about this and i checked the fuse.Yup it was blown. I placed the spare in and pop that went also immediently. got more 10amp minis as posted in another thread which took 20 minutes and when i came back the bike was cooler and it started.I rode it home and parked it.I also noted my battery neg terminal had melted a little ( yes actually melted) and i need all the info i can get to assist the dealer that its going to on the weekend..Please reply with any information as i am in Australia and these bikes are not on every corner ..cheers

Has anyone washed their bikes in the same day the fuse blown?

Cause mine did not start after i washed it, twice! I've sent it to HD both times and they "fixed it" then told me only to drywash my bike. I'm thinking maybe the water caused some sort of short circuit and blown that same fuse as you guys describe.

Maybe it could be a sealing problem on the fuse box, or on the fuel pump?

I use a spray bottle and paper towels for everything but the wheels. So I have never had to worry about that.
:D:D:D

There's obviously a short somewhere, could just be a bad ground but that usually won't cause a fuse to blow or melt a terminal. The fuses blow to protect a component from frying so there's a bigger issue here.

Since the fuel pump was replaced, the bike has not blown any more fuses... I'm still considering trading her in or selling her to a private buyer. Ducati has a new "cruiser" roadster that's making me quiver...

No detail was given by the dealer... they were pissed I called HD Headquarters to complain about the dealer's lack of intelligence...

09 Buells have a problem in the fuel pumps, but luckily they are covered under an EPA warranty so if it is the fuel pump you can get it replaced for free from Harley. There was one member on here with an 09 Scg that was on their 3rd pump same symtoms, call the dealer and give them the VIN and see if there is a recall or bulliten on yours. Good luck!

my bike is at the dealer now. I actually spoke to the tech and he is going to have a look into my issue and actually seemed like he gave a shit , which is comforting. I really hope they find the issue and from talking to dealers here they dont have a common fuel pump problem but both guys i spoke to said they have seen wiring rub through near the battery. The tech said he would surely cover it warranty wise. Phew. It may well be the pump issue an i explained what i had read here and the tech seemed receptive of the information. I will let you all know what happens

ok tech rode my bike and yes he had the fuel pump fuse pop once about 10 kms away from dealer. He replaced fuse then about 3kms later popped fuel pump fuse again.Harley have said to my dealer to replace fuel sender and from reports of other markets this is the problem. No parts in Australia and so far i have been out of action for 3 weeks.I hope this is the problem and not a pump. The dealer is doing their all but i want my bike back.

just read this thread and sorry to see so many problems with the o9's. picked our 09scg up in nashville and rode it to tampa with a layover in chattanooga and has over 5k on it with no problems. the o8xt on the other hand has had the problem with the exhaust valve.

The 2009 XB12scg has a faulty fuel pump. Take it in to the dealership and have them swap the pump for a 2010 pump and your cycle should be ok. Harley is aware of the problem and will take care of it for you as it is fully covered parts and labor. Good luck..
