Hey i just bought my first motorcycle and im proud to say its a '03 XB9R with 8k on it... I would like to get it all tuned up and running as best i can before I start buying goodies for it. If you guys could help me out with any tips or pointers that would be great...

I think the first thing I do after i get a plate and registration is find the nearest HD or Buell dealer and ask them to do a tune up on it.. sh*t like oil, plugs, pads, and what not. I do know it just had the belt replaced but other than that i dont know to much more about service done...

here's a link to a service check-up.
it will tell you what your next involves and when: click

also, since it's an '03, i would recommend you upgrade to the newest belt, but this will include replace the sprockets.
i you could just do it after your current one brakes, since it's new [smirk]

for tune ups...just browse the board and you'll already find alot of info.

congratz on the buy and have fun ;)

Thanks for the welcome!

I paid 3k for the bike... i thought it was a decent deal.. is it not?

Sounds like a good deal to me...
Good idea by the way, get all the basics out of the way before anything else, oil, plugs, pads, air filter, oil filter, trans. oil. Close enough to the 10k service that it might just be a good idea to get it done. It covers most the entire bike, and since you just baught it, it will give you peace of mind to know all is cool.
Welcome to the Family!! Oh, and listen to anything LeFox tells yeah, trust me... he knows what he's talking about.[up]

You just got the same deal I did. I picked up an 03 for $3150 also. I did all the maintenance myself though they rip you off at the dealership. I would try to do as much as you can yourself and only use the dealer for the harder things that need to be done.
