getting ready to figure out why I've got backfire issues when letting off throttle at 4th and 5th gears.
running 06 xb12 and just starting troubleshooting. do ecmspy and tunerpro do the same thing?

I think you are asking the wrong question, but looking at the right tools.

No they dont do the same thing, but they can lead you to the same goal.

When you say "backfire" i believe you use that loosely to describe decel popping. Or is it a legit backfire? If thats the case you have serious issues.

Im gonna assume its decel pop. So first off what year is your bike? That will determine program and cost. Next how familiar are you with tuning programs, even more important the internal and eletrical actions/reactions of and engine?

If no real world expirience, find the link for tuniversity (one of the sites sponsors) and invest in some tuning guidance. I here they know something about buells.

Its a definite backfire on a 2006 xb12r. Have list of things to look at thanks to everyone on the XB forum.
Just got the bike a couple of weeks ago with instrument cluster pulled along with faring cause it used to belong
to a guy that did stunts,(didn't want to hit his face on the windshield when wheelieing. I'm making my way slowly cause the buell is a new fangled contraption. I'm used to the old knucks and pans. Worked on a lot of cars with software diags after running the OBDII. Was wondering which of the SW would be easier to use? Already hunted down the comm cable and have to get the drivers for it. I hear xopti is place to go?
Thanks for any help, luv the xb forum!

Ecmspy will be easier for tuning.

A legit backfire, potential timing issues. Id start with inspecting the static timing. And the ignition module. Not super familiar with the Pre 08 ignition systems.

Stunt bikes live hard short lives.
