New guy, just bought a x1 white lightning.....header question

Hey guys just picked up a 2002 x1 white lightning, its a little rough but for $2000.00 you can't complain....

It has the blue ceramic coated headers, but they are I really bad shape. I have them as the blaster right now getting cleaned up.

I'm wondering what will happen with just a blasted header pipe....with it turn different cools??? I will it rust???

I Also found a stock M2 header....will that fit a X1???

Hi and welcome. I ride a 99 X1.

My factory header is stainless, so im guessing even the factory blue ceramic coated headers are also stainless so no rusting. I wrapped my headers in black header wrap. It gives it a little more old school look but im thinking of doing them in ceramic black instead.

I was going to coat them in ceramic as well, but the guy by me only does flat black....looking at sending it out for a different color.

I would like to pick that other header up from M2, but i'm not sure it will fit.....i was thinking to have it as a back up....guy only wants 60.00 for it and its mint. Or was thinking of doing an open headers....

im not positive on the M2 header cause i am not up to speed on the M2 bike. I think the older M2 had the header over the frame, and the newer 99+ had the header under the frame. Under the frame is what you want, and if thats the case then the header will fit your bike... EXCEPT... I believe all M2 bikes were carbed, so the header will not have an 02 port in it that your X1 needed. You can drill the header and weld an 02 bung on though.

Here are few pics I took after cleaning the bike up.....when I got it was black, thats how dirty it was...

Also these pics are with the blasted header pipe installed, turned out well. Its slowly turning a light gold color.

Not bad for $2000.00 and 11,000 miles......

I just purchase an 02 Whitel Lightning X1 as well. I have to wait until it get's delivered as it is in Texas and I live in Northern California.

Great bike and I really like the mix of Harley and Sport Bike styling, performance. I will post pic's once I have the bike and it's cleaned up.

I too need to have the exhaust ceramic coating re-done. The blue really makes the bike that much more neat looking. Almost like the 70's Trans Am's!

to answer the question about the m2 headers it is a big fat no unless you have an a hole for an 02 sensor made for it other than that it will fit just fine.

Yeah I wanted to keep them blue but the guy before me messed them all up. I just hand them blasted, looks good.
