Well I haven't purchased the bike yet... I know. I know. I'm that guy. But i went to buy it tonight and had a few minor concerns.

The bike im looking at is a 2003 xb9r. It's a good price at $2400, although it has 28k on it.

My biggest concern is that the guy who has the bike currently has been riding it for 700 miles without a muffler. Do i need to worry about heat damage due to the bike running lean? Also when the injectors prime there is a harsh squeal, but only during the prime, not while running ... is the pump going bad?

Give me your honest opinion guys and asap. I'm afraid to lose the bike to someone else... IF its as good of a deal as it appears.

The fuel pumps are loud on some of the older models. Some people have said that theirs has sounded that way for years and it has yet to quit on them.

As far as the exhaust is concerned.. He's been running it straight out of the header for 400 miles? And he can here you speak when you have a conversation with him? Thats impressive. Not sure what kind of damage that would do, most xbs seem to run on the rich side or at least in my experience. I am sure there is someone here who can elaborate on that a bit more.

I would voice your concerns. Try to get it for 2200 or cheaper. My buddy just sold his 04 12r for 2700 (one that i listed here) and it was in pretty nice shape.

Was he running it right out of the header or was there a straight pipe on it or hollowed out muffler

It was running straight out of the header with a 45 degree elbow to clear the chin spoiler. and it was +700 miles.

Its kinda hard to hear much of anything while its running... but what i could hear sounded fine.

No problem on the squeal...Mine make a pretty harsh sounding noise when it primes as well...

No he does not my roommate has an 08 xb12r but of course your right its hard to tell with the exhaust off

Ask the guy thats selling it if you could put your roomates muffler on it to test ride. 20 mins to bolt it on and what other mods are done to the bike. Any pics

nothing performance. just aftermarket blinkers and rear eliminator kit.

Hm well the only thing left is test ride it. If you can get him down on price even better. If the bike where to have engine issuses due to the exhaust atleast you can rebuilt it and still have a nice bike cheaper than most. If you do buy it get atleast a stock exhaust before you ride it much.

i was planning on tearing it down and taking about 3 tubes of simi-crome to it before i do any riding. and in the mean time looking for a stock exhaust... ok nevermind, my roommate just ordered an exhaust and said i can have his stock one. lol
