Good afternoon,

Just giving a brief intro and saying howdy. I've owned numerous sport bikes along the years most of them liter-bikes... but looking for something "different" and American, something I can commute to work on. I've fallen in love with the XB's and have been looking for a fairly clean example of an Xb12s but they are hard to find !!

A few local Xb9s / Xb9sx are still around but I really would like an Xb12s... I am 6' and 210 pounds.

I have rode a couple Xb9's but not an Xb12, so if ya'll have any wisdom to give here please throw it my way!!! Maybe there isn't THAT much of a difference (I'm sure there are many opinions on this)

Anywho howdy, looking forward to getting back on two wheels here soon and hanging out here!!

I'm in North Carolina and budget is 3-5k if anyone knows of a xb around :)!!

Hey Spaz. I'm 6' 3" and 205, a Lightning long (Ss) or Stt is the way to go for tall guys and they only made them in 12's.

The 9 and the 12 aren't really that different at all on the butt dyno. The 12 has a bit more torque and a lower redline, the 9 revs higher/quicker and feels about the same power because it has lower primary gearing.

Thanks man! I have been on CL searching for a while...

and I have a good story on the 2nd one... it's "new listing is below"

https://charlotte.craigslist.org/mcy/6072188815.html

This bike now belongs to a guy in South Carolina, (he used the same pictures for his CL ad) ...long story short, after talking to him on the phone he talked like the bike was in good shape/ran great/wasn't hacked all up... he had only owned it for a month but was afraid it was "too much" bike for him. The guy seemed nice enough, and we arranged to meet at a Waffle House at the SC/NC line. So last Friday I got up early, hooked up the trailer and headed down to meet him (about 1 1/2 hr drive). He's not answering my texts when I left (not a good sign)... I was just happy to possibly be picking up a new to me bike, so I brushed it off and kept truckin down 85...

Two hours later, I get a text, he's running late (no crap) ... I have already ate breakfast at Waffle House waiting on him for an hour. He said to just come to his house... so I thought why not, I've driven this far.

Drive another 30 min, get to his house... the bike is under a muddy lean-to/shed sitting in the dirt and he has the seat off and all the fuses out... the bike has a rats nest wiring, electrical tape everywhere, every time you switch the ignition to the "on" position the ignition relay gets red hot and smells like burnt plastic. The bike won't even turn over. After looking closer there are rounded bolts/broken studs in the frame...the guard above the foot peg has the top bolt broken off in frame... the tail section is missing hardware everywhere, it has some fugly aftermarket gauges. The carbon fiber frame covers just screamed "frame damage cover-up" to me...rear cylinder rocker box weaping... Typical craigslist crap haha.... such a waste of my Good Friday.:down:

On another note... this bike (first one on your list)

I am going to look at today. It has 22,000 miles on it but I had the owner send some high res photos to my email and it looks much much better than the red xb12s. The guy actually is the 3rd owner, knows the history of the bike. The only thing that bothers me is the higher mileage.

There are some other newer Xb9sx (which I think look really cool) around my area with less than 9,000miles on them. Should I consider this over getting a higher mileage and older Xb12s. Thanks for the help guys!

**I understand my last question is a loaded one, I am mechanically inclined and have researched enough to know what to look at when buying these... but in general I guess I should say would it be more wise to just got a newer and lower mileage Xb9sx... or an older Xb12s.

Things to check when looking at a used Buell...
-Check fluids, color/smell
-Check belt condition
-Frame condition (damage = salvage title correct?)
-Rear cyl. rocker box leaking
-exhaust flange/ condition
-wiring (especially around the head stock)

Anything else>?

If you aren't going the Ss route to fit your body I wouldn't be afraid of 'high milage', they go for super cheap because you can find so many with ultraslow miles (I'm a bit more afraid of those) These bikes run forever, and you can get one way cheaper than that.

There are tons of threads (and I think a sticky) about shopping for a used Buell on here.

Thanks for the info, I went to look at that 2004 xb12s yesterday.... the seat on this bike made a difference and it actually fit me pretty well. I would have liked to have waited out for an Ss... but maybe in the future. I am more than happy with this bike, reminds of of my old kX250 it is so responsive and quick and nimble!!! I ended up picking up the Xb12s with 22k miles. It ran out really well and I made an offer and he took it!!! The bike isn't the color I wanted and it needs some good tires and a good cleaning but it had so much more "ass" than my buddies 2003 xb9 (I'm starting to think maybe he needs a tune)

Now it's raining for a couple days... looks like I'll have to "think" about riding
