I recently picked up a 2000 S3 from a friend that didn't know much about the history, as he had just found it himself. It has a few problems that need taking care of cosmetically, but otherwise seemed good. I began riding it to school and work and was having a lot of fun with it. The problem came when I noticed it surging and popping lightly during cruise at constant power settings.

I have decided to check the ECM with ECMspy, after I get a cable. I have been reading on how to use the program and what to look for and I am lost. I can probably figure out how to get the program running on my computer and get the bike connected to it, but after that I have no idea what to look for or do. I haven't found much simple guidance on how to troubleshoot problems with ECMspy.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

My 2002 s3 had what I called a hiccup at cruising speed. It was the o2 sensor and the engine temperature sensor. It was so bad I could barely ride it if it was out or at slow speeds. Still does it every once in awhile.

I was looking the bike over and discovered a sheared front exhaust header bolt. Could this be causing some of my issues?

And on that note, does anyone have a Jim's exhaust tool that they could loan, or rent to me?
