Hi all,
My late '96 S1 is having transmission issues, so I picked up an X1 to mess with while I straighten out the S1. The X1 is running pretty well after I replaced the two loose spark plugs. Was able to coax one more ride out of the S1 yesterday, so I have some comparison observation:
The X1 pulls harder above about 5500RPM, but the S1 feels like it has quite a bit more torque at 3-4500RPM. I plan to piddle with the X1 ECU, get the impression that it is running lean in that range. I am thinking that the X1 and S1 ought to be about the same mid RPM torque. I have a second ECU and spy cable coming, plan to take out and leave alone the overall good running ECU in the bike as a standby reference.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? I think the S1 would beat the X1 to 100MPH as of right now.
The X1 has the (ugly) stock air cleaner. Does anybody have a clue why someone would have taped up the twp holes on the top of the velocity stack? Should I open them back up?
My S1 as of right now handles a lot better. Not a surprise, it has much better tires, and the back shock in the X1 back shock is totally busted. Got a used shock coming for the X1, will put some tires on it, see what happens.
The X1 engine is running smoother with less felt vibration. Thinking about replacing the S1 engine mounts while it is apart.
PS, the S1 tranny locked up right when I parked it yesterday! Something with the shifting operation is screwed.
