Hey, new to the forum and as of yesterday a new owner of a 2000 X1. Looking for some help with the bike. It has sat for years (only 6500 miles), not because of problems but lack of interest. There are some minor problems:

1. tried to open gas tank and could not get the lid to turn

2. Tires are basically brand new but have sat, if they pass visual inspection and hold air would they be okay for now?

3. It does have oil leak between the cases on bottom I am told, fix?

4. Anything I should do before starting, already figured drain all gas and oil, also blow the lines out of all the old gas.

Basically any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

it looks pretty clean! welcome to the addiction.

I would none of the issues seem major, nothing you cant handle. Id also check plugs.

as far as the oil leaking, that is common with these, probably just a bad seal.

Wow, she's a beaut! Gratz on the new ride, I'm envious.

Would love to find an X1 in Nuke Blue/White.

The gas cap locks with the same key that fits the ign.
If it set for that long the tires may be flat spoted and dried out but good enough to check out the rest of the bike after you get it up and running. Do not take someones guess on where the oil leak is comming from. Degrease the engine after you get it running and then look for where the oil comes from but the places that usually leak are rocker covers. starter motor. primary pully and oil lines on the oil pump. I would also change the brake fluid before you ride it.

Thanks for the responses guys, gonna hook the battery charger to her in a minute and start tearing her down and see what I got going on. Got a few new pics of ECM and revtech box. Unfimilar with what's these bikes so is this a good setup, got a stock ECM also.

Throw the revtech box in the trash now.
they are known to upset the buell ddfi and cause problems.
Good that you have the race ecm, get ecmspy plus the cable to connect your laptop to the bike. With it you can check error codes, reset tps, data log etc etc. A must have with the x1. See www.ecmspy.com

Ok sounds good. I will take the revtech off. Just ordered cable from vtwintunerconnection. Also got a question about the headers, are those stock or aftermarket? I notice most other bikes the headers almost join together after coming out of engine, where mine cross and make the loop. Thanks.

Header is a force header just looked it up. I can't really see in your pics but i bet you have the muffler too should look kinda like a short 1970 jap bike muffler .

Yeah it's like a megaphone style. Cleaning up the FI and draining fuel right now. Gonna fire her up in a few. She is loud, I am told.

The force pipe is loud, I love mine lol. Once you open her up on the road I bet you instantly start smiling. Nice bike btw, I've got a 00 X1 red stripe edition and love every minute of it.

Got another question guys. Charged the battery some and re-installed an just got loud clicking like the starter. As I said before the bike sat for years so maybe the battery is beyond charging?

Make sure your battery contacts are clean and tight, same applies to the frame and engine earths, also take the end plate off the solenoid and inspect/clean the contacts and slip ring.

those bolts need to be tightened up or replaced if you dont run the chin fairing

The two bolts on the side held your chin fairing at one time. When the first owner removed it the bolts may have been replaced without loctite or the correct torque. My book says those two bolts torque to 27-29 ft-lbs but the book is for a 2001 bike but if they are 5/16 diameter the value should be the same. You need a can of brake cleaner and some blue loctite. First remove the two bolts in your photo then clean the threads on the bolt and in the case with your cleaner let dry then apply some loctite to the bolts and torque down.
