Greetings all. I am a soldier currently stationed in Afghanistan. I grew up riding sport bikes and have had a few Harley cruisers for several years now. I have always been intrigued by Buell motorcycles and have finally purchased a 04' XB12R. It is in immaculate condition (Members of my MC checked it out for me before buying). I am thrilled and can not wait to get home to ride it!! I have been reading every thing I can about it. I am wondering if you all may have some additional items that I should pay special attention to when I get home to it. It has a stage 1 kit already and has just over 11,000 miles.

Welcome and Thank You for your service!!! SEMPER FI! New to the Xb's myself. Everything I can tell check wheel bearings and run amsoil or mobile 1 oil. Right side scoop. I fortunately have had zero issues but I am expecting them at some point. Be safe and make it back in good health!

Thank you everyone for the warm reception! However, I did notice that PalmaMaster1 reccomended the use of Mobil1 or Amsoil. While I completely agree that these are both fine oils... I prefer using Brad Penn V2 20W-50 motorcycle oils in all my V-twin motors. Does anybody else use Brad Penn? I have had EXCELLENT results using this oil and would suggest it for all! It is rather difficult to obtain but well worth it.

Thank you for your service!
Welcome to the group.

Things to look for..? I've only had mine for a few months, but can tell ya they are awesome to ride
and so easy to work on (I'm dealing with a transmission issue now...)

Add the right side air scoop if yours doesn't have it. It makes a huge difference.
Never take anything apart and not put it back together with locktite. It WILL fall off if you don't.
Keep your powder dry and get home safe!

Bigflash1,

Why the ride side air scoop? I am trying to learn as much about it as I can before I get home so I can get all these things done. Just looked at the pics I have of it (as I havent actually ever even touched it yet) and the air scoop is on the left side. Is it an additional air scoop or just a relocation? The additional would make sense of course. and whats the whole airbox delete thing all about? Is it just about free flow again? Thank you for all the good tips.

The right side airscoop is for the rear cylinder cooling. It's a couple of pieces from the Uly comfort kit I believe. I live in southeast GA and it's pretty much always hot here. Before I added it, my fan would run pretty much anytime I was riding slow, or freeway speeds. Take a look here for the factory one. There are better looking aftermarket scoops, but...
Factory air scoop

Not sure about the air box delete mod yet. Do a search on the forum though. There's a TON of great information here.
