I was told earlier on another thread that the xb12r is tempermental with tire pressures. What is the correct pressures for an 08 xb12r? I work at a car dealership and can get nitrogen for free to stabilize the varience in air pressures. Any ideas if that is ok? Never had a bike and don't know much about them. I have always been a car guy.

Same rules apply, XB's are no different than any other bike or car. If you can get free nitro do it. All bikes and cars should have pressures checked regularly.

Does anyone know the pressures recommended for the 08 xb12r

I think the owner's manual recommended 36 front and 38 rear, but that is only a starting point. You will eventually want to adjust it to your needs and style.

i've heard the nitro is a little harder ride in a car, not sure if that will effect the bike or not. if it's free play with it and please share some preasure info, i'm sure it's going to be slightly different from normal preasure.

The XB12Ss is 34 front, 36 rear.

As far as I know, Nitorgen atoms are larger. This would effectively keep you from having to air up the tires as often, as they'd have a hard time escaping.

However, the air you are breathing is mostly nitrogen. Something like 75%, I think. With that said, wouldn't the tire act like a filter, assuming the oxygen atoms escaped more readily? Wouldn't you end up with a tire that is mostly filled with nitrogen by default? Not sure.

I'd do it if it was free. I see no bad side effects even if the positive ones aren't very significant. Most places charge way too much to do it. It is a little time consuming to do though since you have to purge all the air and water out of each tire.

I think there is a tank of nitrogen in my lab, gives me an idea :)

I think I need to check my tire presures.......lol. I just put on new tires and did 42 psi on both<---------It was printed on the tire. I will say that the new tires made a HUGE diff in how easy the bike was to flick into corners.

Just look at the side of your tire, especially if you are running different tires than stock. Most are 41 or 42 and run better with their manufactures specs than the stock Buell pressure recommendations.

Usually those numbers are max pressure numbers. Like when setting the beads. It will damage the tire if ran over that pressure (set cold). It's usually not recommended to exceed the manufactures recommendations on tire pressure.

I've always set my air pressure after rides, at operating temp. So I guess that means I'm effectively under inflating them...? Thanks Red, never relized tire pressures were a cold spec.

I prefer to check them at operAting temp, your riding them at that temp. Why not benefit from the positive handling characteristics. I personally inflate my one my xb9r to 28 from and 32 back and they warm up to 32 and 36

Just as a side not I work at a tire store and people ask for nitrogen all the time. I will tell you the same thing I tell them I do put nitrogen in tires and its the same amount you brethe 78 percent

Ok folks just finished Motorcycle Safty course and passed, my instructor has advised that when nitrogen filled tires fail it is worse than regular air filled. He said its almost like they explode if there is a blow out. Think I may stick with air while still learning to ride. He has over 500k on 2wheels and some sick credentials. Now Wed. I need to go to the DMV and get my endorsement. :)
