Hey guys -

Unfortunately, back with another question. Thanks, as always, for any help.

Fired up the Blast ('01, 5000 miles) for a short ride. It was raining for a solid day and I had to wipe it down.

It started just fine. I let it idle for a minute and hopped on. I revved the engine prior to putting it in first and, after the engine increased its RPM, within a half a second it wanted to sputter and die. I gave a few more revs and the same thing. The the engine would quickly respond like normal and sputter within a fraction of a second. This was while the bike was in neutral, clutch in, kickstand down/up, etc. Couldn't see a pattern.

I then let it sit for a while and, even though it was idling just fine for 20 minutes, it still wouldn't take any throttle.

One oddity I noticed was that if I let it idle for a minute, it would take the throttle for about a second or two. If I didn't let it idle for said minute or two, it would take the throttle for about half a second.

I did get it to run and take the throttle once during a thirty minute period. It ran around the block just fine but when I came home and let it idle, it was back to its old self.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Need a new boot. The rubber attaching the carb to the manifold tears easily and allows air in and often the bike just wont run at all.

In this picture its the rubber thing being held on by two clamps. I would upgrade to the superboot made by Dan. Then you would never have to worry about it again.

Crud. Thanks, guys. Might just take it over to the mechanic and have it tuned while it's there. I would love to install it myself but live at an apartment.

Thanks again.

Its super easy to install. Remove airbox if you have it, then untighten clamps, pop the carb out, replace with superboot, pop back in, put airbox back on.

I have literally done this while filling up gas.

Thanks again. Hoping it is that easy and I've reached out to Dan for the part. It would sure make life simple because I would rather not tow it to the shop.
