Hey guys, have had my xb12scg for about two weeks now and i am having some popping from my airbox and near-stalling. it usually happens when i crack my throttle of the line...if I roll the throttle on gently, it doesn't happen, but if i crack it too quickly it pops and almost stalls out. I have the airbox delete mod, KN filter, and D&D exhaust and just had the bike tuned. i don't mind a temperamental ride, but sometimes it pops and near-stalls when i'm in the middle of a turn and it scares me that this could occur when I am turning against traffic. is this normal? the popping is definitely coming from the airbox, sometimes it's a loud BANG and there has been a little smoke that comes off the filter (I have the carbon cover with induction holes, the smoke comes out of there, this has only occurred a couple of times and only in the first few minutes of my ride). thoughts? thanks guys!

Sounds like it's just not warmed up and you're asking too much of it.

Checked inside the airbox, no little man setting off m80s! Dang woulda liked to see that. To clarify, the big BANG and smoke has only happened a couple of times soon after startup. So a cold engine may be the culprit? But the general popping and near-stall happens when hot and cold. I will check for oil on the filter

Mine does this also but only when she's not warmed up. i have breather reroute so no longer get oil in my airbox.

Think its normal, specially if its not warmed up and you rev the engine post down shift in the gear.

I had an '06 9SX I bought new. It too did the same thing. There WILL be guys who say this is bullshit, as I myself did. But....my dealer did a TPS reset. It MAY have helped a little. Then....he says after another visit; "try using a different fuel. We've had good luck with Sunoco". I figured I'd at least TRY it. Guess what? Thet whole tank...no cough thru the intake. I couldn't believe it, but.....so as an experiment, I put 'no-name' fuel back in it...cough comes back. It could NOT be coincidence! I do not have the '06 any longer. I do have '05 now. I've been running Citgo in it as there is one right across the street from me, and it seems to work pretty well. But...this one doesn't seem to be as sensitive as my '06. :D

I have noticed big differences in different brands of gas as well. Mine likes most any gas without ethanol or any additives. Giving her alcohol always seems makes her feel sloppy and heavy.

Poping in the Airbox is usually a TPS reset needed especially if the bike is a 2008 or newer from the problem described.. There is a Key Turn and Throttle Twisting reset method for 2008 through 2010 for that with all Buells of these years.Once Learned on how to is Quick and easy for newer bikes.. The older models 2007 on back need to be reset differently. Look up {Daves DIY videos all in one thread} worded just like that here on the Forum. Watch those when you can. The Intake gaskets could be a problem with that and are easy to replace for most.. Depending on the year of bike you have. and miles ridden it is a cheap fix.. Small Things First, good Fuell. then TPS reset then possible Intake gaskets Go through the Forum and hope it is an easy fix.*Jimi

Both my buells have always done that when they are cold, does it less with high octane fuel, always figured it was normal, but I usually let them warm up before riding so no worries.
