I just purchased a slightly used 2004 XB12R with just 5900 miles on it. I'm doing all of the maintenance per the service manual, but didn't see anything about cleaning the valve. Can I spay fuel injector safe throttle body cleaner in there while its running or not? I just notice some tarnishing and gunk built up around the valve and can't get it out with my hand. Any suggestions? Not sure if I'll screw something up...

When I replaced my intake seals I removed the TB to clean it out and it's easier said than done. That stuff is real sticky and hard to remove.

I'm not sure if it is safe to spray stuff in there and it is alot more work that you would like to remove from bike to clean.

Hopefully someone has a more knowledgeable answer for you!

clean the throttle body with fuel inj. cleaner and a old toothbrush works good just open up the throttle and clean the inside may start up alittle hard but should be good to go.

Clean butterfly and inside while bike is not running, right? Then, use a shop towel or paper towel to clean and remove any loose gunk. Start it up, right and let it warm until running smoothy on its own...

Therese this chemical at autozone . carburetor cleaner its in a gallon bucket. that **** works awsome. just take any electrical components out and any rubber seals ect. and drop it in the bucket and check on it in 20 mins. ive put a gunked up carb in that stuf i mean it lookd like chocolate cake inside the float bowls nothing moved in like 2-3hours everything was clean.

Thanks guys I got it. I purchased seafoam carb/injector cleaner and it worked great! Butterfly valve and throttle body are super clean.

Remove airbox/snorkel etc. Spray brake cleaner on a rag and use a screw driver or what ever you have around to clean it out. Just be careful not to get the brake cleaner on anything. I wouldn't suggest spraying anything into the TB, the intakes seals are a P.I.T.A.
