Oil and Fuel Mileage

This may all be coincidence, but I changed my oil on my 09 SCG to Mobil 1 V Twin, and my gas mileage went up 8 mpg.

I did my 1000 mile service, and replaced the break in oil with Harley Full Synthetic. At 2900 miles, I replaced my oil again. With the Harley oil, I was averaging about 100 mile per tank of gas. When I filled up, I put 3.1 gallons in. After changing to Mobil 1, I filled up at 125 miles and still put in 3.1 gallons.

It may all be coincidence, I may just be getting to my break in point. If it is then that sure is some timing considering I filled up on my way home from doing my warm up run before changing the oil and still only got 33 mpg.

Yep that will happen, mine jumped so much I thought my low fuel light was broke.

I get a consistent 42 mpg with Mobil 1 V-twin on my 09 12Ss. 4000 miles on her and counting.....

Nuts how this stuff happens.Remember to buy gas from 93 oct pumps only.Those mixed oct single hose lines give you a fair amount of what the person before you pumped..

I have had similar issues with my gas mileage on my XB12S. Around 120-125 miles my fuel light come on. With clean HD SYN3 I get between 50-60mpg. With dirty oil I get around 43-48mpg. Also my riding riding style reflects my gas mileage. If I am in the city or flying threw the corners fast my fuel mileage goes way down and on the open highway my fuel mileage goes up. You will always get better gas mileage out of clean oil. I am thinking of switching to Amsoil synthetic on my next oil change.

I wonder if Mobil makes the HD SYN3 for Harley?

No, I think Citgo makes SYN3, and it's a semi-syn, not a full syn like Mobil 1 or AMSOil.
