I just bought a 2009 Buell 1125 CR at a local dealer with only 4460 km's. Basically the bike is brand new.

The deal was: "cash and carry", in other words, I came with my old bike and left with the Buell without it getting any service or checks.

To be sure, I had the oil changed two weeks later at 4522km at my regular maintance adress.
When the mechanic removed the filter cover, we both noticed that the filter wasn't there.

There was some metal shaving on the magnetic drain plug, but nothing special according to the mechanic and the oil, besides beind black, looked fine.

He put in a new filter and added 2,5 liters of 20W50 as described in the manual. We checked the oil level both cold as well as hot with the bike in upright position and after the hot check it seemed that the level was exactly at MAX. The mechanic never worked on a 1125 before however and during the cold check there wasn't a marking visible on the dipstick, which was confusing.
He therefore advised to check the oil level again the next day.

I did, both cold and hot as described in the manual with the bike in upright position, but I didn't see any marking on the dipstick. I have added 250ml of extra oil with 100ml increments, again exactly as described in the manual, which means that there is now 2,75 liter of oil in the engine.

Unfortunately I still cannot see a marking on the dipstick and I'm not sure how to proceed from here. Should I add more oil? Could there be an issue, maybe as a result or relate to the missing oil filter before the oil change, which could explain why there is no marking visibible on the dipstick? The engine doesn't leak and there is no blue or black exhaust smoke visible. The engine also seems to run fine.

If anyone could give me some advice, I would really appreciate it.

Further more, is there maybe anything known about 1125's which left the factory with a missing oil filter? As the bike has only run very few km's, I cannot imagine why the oil was already changed during maintance and if so, why you would remove the oil filter and forget to put a new one back.
