Ok just a newbie with a buell.
Pick up my XB9S a few months ago, the oil dip stick was bent, thinking heat/age ordered a new one, finally arrived and again went from straight as an arrow to bent after one (cough ahem Spirited) ride.
Common?

Never seen, or even heard of, that happening. The dipstick's made from thermoplastic & shouldn't melt under even high engine temps. I've ridden sustained high revs in over 40C (105F) & not had this problem.

Is your oil cooler flowing properly?

Mine was also bent when I bought my bike a couple years ago. I kinda just straightened it out best I could. Never had a problem with it. Want to buy a njce aluminum one jist haven't found one yet.

Yeah, mine's not exactly straight either. NOT melted, but bent some. I think they ALL are to an extent. I seen somewhere, someone took a piece of smaller gauge aluminum rod, drilled and tapped the one end. (obviously in a machine shop in a lathe, etc.). He cut the old one off, drilled the plastic part way thru to the size of near the OD of rod. Drilled the whole way thru the size of the screw he used. (4-40 maybe?). insert rod into cap until it bottoms out, insert screw from the other side and tighten using some Loctite. Looks nice too! A lot of screwing around, but if you have or know someone who has the facilities to do it, that sort of thing is what makes it fun! Remember....ANYONE can buy it...only a select few can BUILD it!! :D

I've got a dark horse moto one that is anodized aluminum that has a temp gauge incorporated into the top. Don't know if they company still exists, but it looks great and gives some peace of mind knowing hot hot you are running.

rofl mine has always been bent just thought it was supposed to be that way to fit the swing arm
