I have read the threads on everyone and their mothers preference on oil, but I want to know what the best oil filter to use is?

A few people have mentioned that Fram filters are junk.

Please try to stay on topic, with talking about oil only if a specific brand/weight pertains to a specific filter's function.

Thanks guys/gals.

This is semi-on topic. I just changed the oil in my XBSs, removing and installing Buell OE filters. I had put the previous one on by hand as per instructions. I have a proper cap wrench to take it off with. BUT, when I went to take the old one off: The filter spun on the (not very flat) flats, rounding the filter. [mad][mad] It wouldn't come off with a belt, so I had to use a C-clamp to grab it and turn it the first 3/4 turn. SO: My plan is to go with an aftermarket filter next time.

HTH.

Along this topic, I've heard recommendations not to use Pure One filters, something about too much internal resistance to oil flow for the pressure that the XB engine's oil pump makes. Anyone care to comment or expand on that?

I use royal purple cycle 20-50 and a good wix filter and change the oil twice a riding season

In the past I have used the Perform HD2, now I get the don't laugh, Walmart SuperTech ST3600, they are made by the same company that supplies AC/Delco. This is the largest filter that would fit my '98 S3, Might be different for the XB's.

When I use to be a store manager at Autozone I cut open every filter we had and made a display for them. It was an eye opener to say the least. Fram was poor quality. Motorcraft, Bosch, and Mobil 1 were very nice quality. I have heard Wix, also badged as Napa makes nice filters. I personally run the Napa filter and peel the sticker off so its plain black.
