Hi Buellers, I have a couple of problems with my 08 XB12Scg. I do have the full Buell Race Kit on it. For the past few months I would ride the bike and after a few miles, the yellow check engine light would come on for a few minutes, then go out. This seemed to happen more often as time went on. I thought it may be the oil sensor or the oil pump, also I was loosing a litle oil but it didn't seem to be leaking anywhere, strange. Anyway I got fed up with the darn light popping on and so I overfilled the oil, that pretty much stopped the light from coming on as often, but of course it soon sprang a leak due to the presure. Now I have another problem with this bike in addition to whatever was making the light go on and off at times.
I will have to take the bike down to a shop to have the leak repaired, I have no idea what that will entail. However, I also want to get a new oil pump put in at the same time. IN doing both things that will narrow the preexisting problem of the light going on and off down to the sensor if it keeps happoening after the leak is repaired and the new oil pump is installed.
1. Is anybody using an after market oil pump that is better quality than a worthless HD oil pump? If so what brand/model and what is better about that oil pump compared to the HD garbage?
2. Also, do you think it may be the oil pump causing the check engine light issues on and off?
3. before the actual leak I can see started, it was the check engine light going on and off, sometimes I would checek the oillevel and it would be down half a quart or so, but I could NOT see it leaking anywhere at that time. What would make it loose oil if it wasn't leaking and not smoking very much?
